    ===================

    Dear Friend of the LAFD:

When a community comes together, anything is possible. We made a solemn pledge to perpetually honor the lives of those killed in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, and in fulfilling that pledge, we've never walked alone.

Last week's "Extreme Makeover" effort by members of the California Landscape Contractors Association, employees of Home Depot, the Department of Water and Power, the Los Angeles Dodgers - and people just like you - allowed us to make great strides in sprucing up the World Trade Center Memorial in Los Angeles.

If you have yet to stop by and take a look at this monument, we encourage you to do so today - or better yet on any of the next five Saturdays.

Because of the spirited response last week, and because there's a few tasks remaining to make things *just right*, we've decided to extend our Extreme Makeover finale through May 14th - and we're asking you to join us in being part of the final "makeover" team.

Don't be shy. Just drop in anytime from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM on the dates below - and if you could, assist Firefighters and their families with some of the minor grounds maintenance chores that remain.

All tools necessary to accomplish this "labor of respect" will be supplied. If you can do something as simple as push a broom, you can help. Your participation is a personal tribute, which will help focus attention on Los Angeles' commitment to those who died in the September 11th attacks.

We need you - one hour or two- the time you contribute is truly appreciated. Leave early or stay until 1:00 PM. To accomplish our goal we need volunteers of every age and skill level.

    Dates:
    Saturday, April 16, 2005
    Saturday, April 23, 2005
    Saturday, April 30, 2005
    Saturday, May 7, 2005
    Saturday, May 14, 2005

    Time:
7:00 AM to 1:00 PM each Saturday

    Location:
    Frank Hotchkin Memorial Training Center
    1700 Stadium Way, Los Angeles

Refreshments are provided compliments of the United Firefighters of Los Angeles and the Chief Officers' Association.

Please drop in, lend a hand or just say hello after you pause for a moment of quiet reflection. You and your loved ones will leave knowing that you've made a difference.

I hope to see you there!
