During recent weeks there has been a high fire alert across Kentucky.In the Northeastern district 73 fires have burnover 1,045 acres.
20 caused by debris
45 caused by Arson
8 other factors just as equipment and childern
The largest fire burned 366 acres in Lewis County.Chuck Wilburn district forester "The ice storm of three years ago still plays a big part in forest fires,"he said."There is so much dry timber still laying on the ground.When a fire begins,the timber is so dry that it causes firefighters to face a bigger problem"The hot spots for his district are Carter,Morgan and Greenup counties.
