    A couple of ideas:

1- Ask for donations from area businesses

2- Even better if you have a big factory, etc in your town or close- by. Sometimes these plants can be real nice with donation. For example, a Pilikington Glass(formerly Libby Owens Ford) factory in our town used to have there own fire brigade and when it disbanded they gave us gear, hoses, and even a truck a 1969 Willys Fire Truck.

3- Local power company We got turnouts and SCBA's from a local power company

4- Area departments getting rid of obsolete gear and equipment

    5- Ebay

Also forgot to ask about some background info.

Are you affiliated with a Fire Dept??

    Do you have SOG's/SOP's??

If so what do they say about training etc??

What will be explorers role in the FD??

Knowing answers to these questions might help people help you.

If you don't have SOG's/SOP's, you can find them on here, I have some also. You can find great training material and lots of discussion about Exp's in the FD and anything pertaining Explorers.

    Thumbs up

my name is shane, i am a lieutenant with remlap fire and ems district, i have been a firefighter/emt for 15 years, i have worked as full time emt, 911 dispatcher, dps officer, and airport firefighter over the years. my dept has recently just started an explorer post,in which i am the post advisor

our explorers will be able to run calls, in accordance with the learning for life program rules, only if there is room on the apparatus. no more than 1 explorer can be on a call. we have sop's, and they let the explorers train just a we would, exept minus the more dangerous live fire training.

    Shane,

Sorry I haven't been able to get back to you, I've been busy studying for finals and whatnot but I checked with the chief we gave'em all away, but hence, they never check so I'll check tonite in the storage portion of our station to be sure.
