Default First Responder Institute/ Tums Grant

I recently filed for a grant from The First Responder Institute/ Tums.
I received an email of congratulations yesterday and request to verify my application information. I think they make grants quarterly based on need.

It's not a huge amount but itís all good. I certainly appreciate it! Itís also good practice for new grant writers to fine tune their skills for the AFG Grant.

Congratulations... I actually was just looking at the site before coming here. It's nice to see someone is getting them. I have applied for 4 previous grants through them and have been turned down each time. I guess I'll keep trying.

    What are you getting?

Congratulations! We also appplied but apparently did not make the cut. Does anybody know if you have to apply quarterly?

Edit: never mind, should have read their FAQ first

We were denied the first time out. It was a long shot. They had changed the rules slightly providing for a max. of $2500 per recipient.

The program is done quarterly. So keep on trying.

    Talking Grant Award

We received our award notification on Monday for $1000.00 We are purchasing a couple of new nozzles for our pumper.

I first applied last year and was turned down. I requested almost the same money this year but I changed the narrative to include the use of TUMs as a necessary expense for financing a small rural department.

Hope this is the start of good things for the grant year.

We were fortunate enough to be a receipient 1Q of 2004. Excellent program. I wish a greater portion of corporate america would be more "philathropic'

I don't know if the Chief applied for one or not. I told him about it and he looked into it, but I know one of the requirements was that your matching funds had to come from a source other than from Tax monies and that's where most of our money comes from........

We were in the same situtation. The bulk of our operating money is also tax derived. The max under the TUMS program is a $5,000 project 50% match so your max out of pocket would be $2,500 depending upon your request. Fairly easy to raise that much, we raffled off a BBQ grill.

It's an awesome grant for something small.
firenresq77, the funds have to come from local funds, nothing tax derived if I remember correctly. Very easy to get actually. Anyone need help with this, let me know.

Default . . . still waiting for my AFG Grant :)

While anxiously checking my email for my AFG. I received this email.

"Congratulations! Your department has been chosen to be a recipient of the 2005 2nd Quarter Grant from TUMS/GSK and the First Responder Institute.

In order for us to send your grant to you, we need you to respond to this email and verify that your mailing address is still correct from your application.

We look forward to hearing from you. Once again, congratulations!"

    Default TUMS Grant In Aid

Congratulations to all the winners! This is agreat little grnat program specifically limited to FDs. general program priorities are to rural departments with "no tax based" funding. 50-50 match and your match must be in-hand at time of award announcement and not come form a tax derived fund.$2500.00 maximum.

I have pushed this grant extensivley during the last year as a viable source. The match is a little much for some, but have seen some real success stories. The point is, this is one of the few corporoate grants available strictly to FDs out there. Applications are accepted quarterly and previous winners are excluded from applying. It is featured on my website.

Remember, grants are like the lotto,"if you don't play, you can't win".

Keep applying folks, keep your departments financially sound and propelry equipped.

We have been notified that we were awarded this last round. For those of you that have received a grant from Tums before do they send you a check or do you have to request to be reimburst?

    Default Grant Award

They sent us a check for the entire grant amount with the stipulation that we match it at 50%. They also sent us some coupons for different fire supplies.
