MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

· Graduation from high school or equivalent

· 18 years of age



If you meet these qualifications, submit a completed City of Tacoma application form and study material acknowledgement form. Your application materials must be received by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 30, 2005. Incomplete applications will result in applicant’s disqualification.




HIRING REQUIREMENTS:

A physical ability test (PAT) will be administered prior to interviews and hiring consideration. The PAT assesses the physical abilities necessary to perform the duties of a firefighter and will only be given to the number of eligible candidates needed to meet the anticipated needs of the Fire Department. Individuals given a conditional offer of employment must also pass a background check, polygraph and psychological examinations, and a pre-employment medical examination which includes a drug screening. At the time of appointment it is necessary to possess a current, valid, Washington State Driver’s license which must be maintained thereafter. Fighters are also required to maintain EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) certified status. New employees must successfully complete a one year probationary period prior to obtaining permanent status in this classification.
