Around 4:10 New York time today a retaining wall on the Henry Hudson Parkway collapsed allowing around 17 stories worth of rubble and dirt to fall down onto the highway possibly trapping cars and people. Rescue efforts are in effect from the FDNY and police robots. The Hudson Parkway is expectd to be shut down for the next 24-48 hours.

So far there hasn't been any reported injuries, but there is still 20-30 ft. of rubble to dig through. I found some pictures and video of it.

Glad I didn't pick this afternoon to go on vacation. We always go that way to bypass the cross-bronx.

It'll be a miracle if there were no cars caught in the collapse.

One thing that caught my eye when I was looking at the pictures that struck me as odd:

"NYPD is on the scene, using thermal imaging equipment to try and see if anyone is trapped underneath the debris. "

Do you think that is a mis-quote and it was FDNY doing the search & rescue? Or is this something that would normally fall under the NYPD's duties?
