One of my classes this semester was an advanced research and expository writing class. Our professor let us choose our theme for the term. I focused on the state of fire protection in the US. One of the issues I brought up several times in my papers was residential sprinklers. This is the final comment from my professor. On another good note, my final paper received a 93%. But her comments make me far happpier than any grade. This is why I am pursuing my degree in Fire Science. If I can persuade people to change their way of thinking and save a life, then it is all worth it.

"Your essays have been very informative. My husband is an architect and builder and we are about to embark on building a new home for ourselves. After reading your papers, I have been hounding him to install residential sprinkler systems in our new house and the others he builds."

Good Job!
Cheffie,
I've always felt that our job doesn't end when we leave the firehouse. By taking the time to write about such an important topic, you have educated one more person about fire safety. Add into the equation that this architect will then educate others when building their homes and businesses, you have done a great service to your community. Kudos!!!!PAJ

Thank you for the good words everyone.
BFD- I don't quite think I am ready to be published but I would be more than happy to email a copy of it to anyone who wants to read it. It is 12 pages long and in Word format. If you PM me with your email address, I'll email it to you.

Public Relations is the one of the number one goals of the fire service.
It allways feels good when you inform someone and they respond.
For my public speaking class I did a speach on proper smoke detector upkeep. There were actualy a few people who didnt have detector or they were inoperable and they fixed them. It felt great being able to spread fire safety info outside of the fd atmosphere and have a positive affect on people.FF I

Not much else to say but well done. Even if it only saves one life, its worth it.
"There are only two things that i know are infinite, the universe and human stupidity. And im not so sure about the former."
For all the life of me, i cant see a firefighter going to hell. At least not for very long. We would end up putting out all the fires and annoying the devil too much.

I had a similar experience. I gave a speech on portable extinguishers in the home. I went through ratings, size and how to use. At the end of the speech my instructor mentioned he has two fireplaces in his house that he uses quite frequently. He said he doesn’t have any smoke detectors or portable extinguishers in his house.Originally posted by CaptainMikey

He said he would go out and get some.
Mission accomplished.
