DAYTONA BEACH -- For the third time this month, firefighters were called to the Daytona Beach Pier to douse flames, fire officials said.

Just after 9 p.m., an employee at the pier called firefighters after seeing a fire in the storage area of the structure. Daytona Beach fire Lt. John King said the blaze spread into the walls of the kitchen and several people had to be evacuated from the pier.

No one was injured, but the fire caused several hundreds dollars worth of damages, King said.

"Because of the suspicious nature (of the fire) they're bringing in the state fire marshal, King said Thursday night.

On May 2, firefighters responded to the pier twice after roofers making repairs there accidentally started two separate fires with a torch.
