    Default Garbage in, garbage out

"Life & Law of the Garbage Truck

One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the
airport. We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car
jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed
on his brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver
of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us.
My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was really
    friendly.
So I asked, 'Why did you just do that? This guy
almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!' This is when my taxi
driver taught me what I now call, 'The Law of the Garbage Truck.'

He explained that many people are like garbage
trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger,
and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need
a place to dump it and sometimes they'll du mp it on you. Don't take it personally.
Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don't take their garbage and
spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets.

The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take
over their day. Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets,
so..... 'Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who
    don't.'

Life is ten percent what you make it and ninety percent how you take it."

I think sausages and jocularity are going to be a bit on the low side in Vienna today.

"A" Shift received a call for a house fire at a private residence in Vienna at 0430 this morning. It turned into a fatal fire for one of the residents. Two males are in hospital with undisclosed injuries, but the lady of the house did not survive.

Going to be a solomn day in the Firehouse I think. Heartfelt prayers for the family loss and to the crews who are involved.

Bad things happen. However, when they do, it is best to find happiness in the simple things. Have a piece of birthday cake, even if it isn't your birthday. Once you are old enough to buy your own cake, your mama can't tell you that you cannot have anymore...

Ya got the truth there, RHV, I'll give you that for sure. And although I am sure I don't know the family personally, I'd be willing to make a fairly safe bet that I've seen them once or twice in the past three years.

We have a very open station in Vienna, the local people are very proud to have us, and in return we make sure that the doors are "always open" if any one asks. Likely as not, I've seen them during an Open House or maybe even just in a passing walk-through.

However on the good side, the sun rose in east like it should, the birds are singing and the humidity is not too bad - YET

It is too quiet in here today. I can hear the crickets chirping.

I hope you are all behaving yourselves. What are you plotting? A firehouse full of mischievious firefighters is never quiet unless you are up to something.

well, here it is another bright beautiful day off. I did remember this time not to open the blinds till after I was dressed. I had to take the day off again and the weather here is gorgeous. It is fascinating to see just how much goes into the construction of a high-rise.

    ok. boys, what's up?

    Smile Yummy

David Beckham is making a personal appearance in Union Square today. There are two HUGE billboards above Macy's of him in Armani underwear which he is promoting. You think there will be a few females there? I may just be one of them if I get done with everything here in time. Then again, what are the chances of being able to get close enough to gaze upon a fine speciman of the male species?

Happy summer solstice. Thankfully, Google is on top of these things.
I forgot it was the first day of summer till I went to search for something and saw the logo for today.

I changed my mind, instead of the veal, I'll have the smoked salmon in honor of summer's arrival.

This perpetual heating and cooling of my part of the planet in relationship to it's tilted axis while going around the sun is getting to be some sort of routine.. Has it been happening long?

I missed the solstice yesterday, but if the weather holds I plan on having a late night bonfire tonight with the ritual dancing and chanting.

It's sort of a Druid thing.

Does veal go well with a solstice?

Default things to make you think on a Saturday

    I have a question.

Why do people insert a blank page in a document and put the words
"this page is intentionally blank" on it. First of all, it is not blank, it has words on it. Second, why not just leave the page out? I should add that these are usually found in government documents. I am currently reading the CA and SF Hazard Plans. It makes me nuts. I wonder if there is a correlation between those who develop these plans and the use of "blank pages."

I've seen them in government tech manuals and procedural documents also.

    Unfortunately I have no answer.

Perhaps the author got paid by the number of pages?

It could also have something to do with Area 51.

At the risk of provoking actual conversation not related to vienna's, spam, oreos, ice cream, nakedness, construction workers, firefighters, women running out of the bathroom, or fishing...

The reason that you have government documents with pages marked "intentionally left blank" is the documents are usually created in a PDF format that is intended to be printed out. If you put the pages in a book, printed front and back of each page, the blank page would usually be at the end of a segment, on the back of a printed page(Sometimes front). Since it cannot be ommitted because it would disturb continuety of the pages in a book, they designate it as intentionally blank.

Simple terms: Think of it as a spacer in case you wanted to print your own book.

I thought the aforementioned items were quite topical.

So if we omit the "blank politicians" who write these, would that disturb the continuity of the government?

Thanks rh. That actually makes sense although I think they should just delete the page out when they are formatting it.

The best thing about summer is the long days. It is 8 PM and the sun is still out. My blinds are open and my apartment is still bright enough not to need artificial lighting.
