EGAN, S.D. (AP) - Fire departments from three neighboring towns
will take over the Egan Volunteer Fire Department's
responsibilities after members of the Egan department resigned
Saturday.
Thomas TenEyck, a former Egan fire chief, said the department
has had personnel problems recently. Citizens and the town board
weren't satisfied with their training, attitudes and appearance and
how they conducted themselves at emergency scenes, he said.
Bruce Cramer, chief of the Colman Fire Department and head of
the Moody County Chiefs Association, said the department also had
trouble keeping 15 members, required for certification.
Cramer and TenEyck said the town plans to reorganize its fire
department.
