    Talking Celebration Thread!!

Thanks to FFCOPEMT for posting up about receiving the question email, hopefully the 1199A link is right behind it for a lot of folks.

Yeah, yeah, not a "real" indication of an award, but all who have gotten the questions and link have gotten the dough.

So post away, let the hair down, throw that confetti if you got the emails. And let us know what's going to be on your shopping list.

Good luck to all. - Brian

I assume these were questions concerning 2005 applications, not left over 2004 money/grants?

Yes, 2005, all the 2004 FP stuff is done. The leftover 2004 Main Program money won't show up until September.

And it's not my department but dang it I'll celebrate with one department that I worked with who just got the question email for their 1250gpm/2500gal pumper-tanker application!!

Got the questions today, still in shock.

We applied for a new tanker. I want to thank Brian and the others who post here. If we get the award, I think the advice and insight posted here helped us greatly.

Last year we applied for a pumper and was turned down.

Yeah, I am in shock as well. Wow. Got our questions yesterday 20050525.

We applied for a pumper. It will hopefully be nice to retire our 1978 Ford. She's been a work horse!

I TOTALLY agree with shawnee271 about this forum. If it wasn't for the community sharing, which is so vital to us all, I don't think we would have faired as well as we have.

Thanks to everyone and keep up the good work!

Best of luck to us all!

Hey, Brian? Guess what? The dept. that is so near and dear to my heart...we got our questions! On the tanker!!! I can hardly contain myself. When I ran in and checked the website, there the email sat! We're 3 for 4 (having just been DJ'd on a 15K FP....boy, would rather have a 175K tanker any day of the week!!! )

Way to go on the ones you worked with hearing, BC...I have about 4 total depts. now that will be either 1st or 2nd rounders...woo-hoo!

You are right. This process will drag on through the rest of the year based on previous years. It is an agonizing wait. But worth it if you are awarded.

    Thumbs up Looks good

Got the questions and answered them earlier this week. Now the grant specialist has emailed and wants us to take a little less money for a pumper tanker 250k vs 325k... how do we respond?? kidding of course I typed YES as fast as I could. Has anyone else had a reduction... this still looks very good, yes??

Lots of prices are capped, nearly every item one could apply for. PPE is set at $1200 for coats and pants, Class A Pumper $250K, 100' aerial (no pump) $425K or so. The idea is to buy what is needed, not what is wanted, like lots of gold leafing, dual Q's, 8 air horns, etc, etc. Not saying that's Bob's case, but there's a reason for their rules like that: people have already done it.

    Default Price Reduction

We had a cost reduction as well. It was on coat and pants, i called our vendor and said hey look you wanna sell this gear here is what i have to spend.....do ya still wanna sell this gear. I bet if you tell your vendor what has happened they will work with you. We had to cut out $192.00...and we still got exactly what we wanted. Now as far as getting cut a $125K thats a different story.

Yes. Now that things are moving, they will come out of order every now and again. The 1199A link is set by a value in the big old database in DC, handled by the tech crowd. The questions are sent by the grant managers in most cases, and sometimes one gets done before the other, but if you get one, you'll get the other.

Hot DOG!!!! First time in 4 years we've gotten the 1199A. If I'm not mistaken, this is where they tell you to sharpen your pencil (but don't write anything down yet???) 'cause you've been approved. Am I correct????

Line them up, sharpen them, and get the phone book out 'cause you'll be shopping in a few weeks. Congrats! What's on Santa's list?

    Smile Our list..

I'm replacing 9 SCBA's and all the bottles. Also enough extra face pieces for every member. We've still been using some steel bottles and most of them end their life in the next two years. Asked for a TIC and replacing about 25 sets of turn-out gear. We've needed this badly and it couldn't have come at a better time. Thanks and good luck to all.

Got the 1199A update form today, Our fire department had requested 169,000 dollars for a new 2000 gallon tanker with 500 gallon per minute pump and the needed equipment to meet NFPA 1901.

As part of this grant we included money for the equipment and EVOC training so the total grant budget is 175,400 dollars. I have not been contacted by phone yet for a reduction in the project yet.

This truck will be replacing a former milktruck we use currently that is a 1978 model with a excess of 100,000 miles on it.

Based on the questions date and the response from FEMA I am guessing we should be receiving word in mid - late July on our award.

Now the fun begins in the process of searching for the right truck.

Am I just paranoid, or does it seem like alot of people have got their questions and/or 1199 link? I received my questions last week, which would be my second award, and agree that in past grant years this would normally be a somewhat guarantee to an award. With the amount of people, just here on this forum, talking about receiving questions and/or 1199a link, just wondering or I guess actually more concerned that a change has occured and maybe these "signs" are not actually a "guarantee" to the award. Just a thought.

Well, considering each round will probably hold anywhere from 200-400 awards to eventually total up to 7,000 or so, it just seems like all of the Firehouse.com visitors that have been hanging around and gleaning information to help them with their grant are hitting the jackpot. There are new people to the forums all of the time, and some may not have ever posted before, just lurked. Hehe, lurk. Funny word.

Anyway, I just think it's a case of people being around the right place at the right time.

    Default No news ...

I'm just sitting in the background waiting to hear something about our grant. So far the only things that's happened is the update profile, which means virtually nothing. We put in to replace all SCBA on all equipment. Current equipment is 15 years old and we run over 1200 calls a year. It seems that there have been alot of awards for vehicles. Hoping they are getting those out of their system before getting on to the rest of us.

    Default Grant Reductions

Ten of the departments we assited have already gotten there 1199s, and that included 3 trucks already. Looks like it will be a good year. Just as I have always taught in our seminars and consulting, your request must be "reasonable". If you go ask for a Cadillac when a Chevy will do, you get turned down or told to take a lower amount. Never rasie the "Greedy Flag" folks, remember "needy not greedy". It is a hand-up not a hand-out!
