    Race for cheese takes toll

MORE than 20 competitors were hurt yesterday — while rolling cheese down a steep hill.
Two suffered broken ankles in the annual contest.

And a female spectator needed treatment after being hit by an 8lb Double Gloucester.

First aiders for the event at the treacherous 1 in 3 gradient Cooper’s Hill, near Gloucester, said the casualty figure was LOW.

There are usually around 50 injuries.

Farmer Jason Crowther, 23, of Narbeth, Pembrokeshire, won the first race.

He said: “You don’t need to practise. You just have to be stupid enough.”

The event stems from an ancient fertility rite.

I read this and thought i would post it here and ask what are the strangest events that are held worldwide?
I cannot see how rolling cheese down a hill could be used as a fertility rite?
