Hello,
I just read where Lexington Kentucky got 9/11 as a paid holiday in their new contract. Are there any other departments that have 9/11 as a paid holiday?

Nice idea, but how about a national holiday?

September 11th should be set aside as a national day of rememberance. I guess we will just have to work on it one city at a time.

I dont think Sept. 11th should be a national holiday. Just like the rest of our holidays, eventually people will forget.(Outside of the fire service) How many non military people do you see stop and take time on Memorial Day to remember the soldiers who faught and died for this country? I usually see them sitting in traffic heading to the beach on their long weekend. If Sept. 11th becomes a national holiday, eventually it will fade in importance to just another late summer 3 day weekend.

I couldn't agree more. I think it should be a national day of rememberance, not national holiday(if there is a difference).

Maybe if there was something official, cities would make more of an effort to remember. On 9/11/03 and 9/11/04, I could not find any citywide memorial services around my area.

9-11 A national holiday?
I'll think about that one on my Pearl Harbor Day vacation!
