LOS ANGELES, CA:
MULTI-PATIENT TRAFFIC ACCIDENT INVOLVING SEMI/TRACTOR TRAILER:


On Saturday, June 04, 2005 at 1751 Hours (5:51 p.m. PDT), three companies of Los Angeles firefighters, five LAFD Rescue Ambulances, and one EMS District Captain, under the direction of Battalion Commander Michael Bowman responded to a Multi-Patient Traffic Accident on the Westbound 118 Freeway at Balboa Boulevard. First arriving companies found a semi/tractor-trailer, reported to be originally traveling Eastbound on the 118, involved in a head on collision with a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) when it jumped the center divider, landing in the Westbound lanes and striking four other autos. Firefighters promptly triaged, treated and attentively prepared all eight patients for transport. Including, a fifty-year-old male driver of the SUV who was transported to Providence Holy Cross Hospital in critical condition, complaining of chest pain. Seven other patients, all female, consisting of four adults, and three minors were transported to area hospitals for non-life threatening injuries. The cause of this dramatic collision is under investigation by California Highway Patrol officials.
