    Default Ferrara vs KME

What are your opinions on Ferraras vs KMEs. I already know that most people here agree that KMEs are usually low bid and have numerous problems but still there are some that will defend KME to the max

Ferrara is building another truck for our local yahoos to use. They are getting a Intruder pumper/tanker.

If it came down to the 2 I would say Ferrara.

If there were any other choices I would say anything but those 2.

It's good to hear from you again Cellblock. I call Special Services (the divison that work orders our trucks) and no one from Fire House Mag. call to verify my POSTs. I told them it must be a mistake because I was being acused of slander and they had to research my statement. I mean if you are going to acuse someone of lying you would at least verify his story with the source. The Chief told me no one call in refernce to any statement about Ferrara or anything else. I guess there is a mix up.

Since the 1st amendment seems to be fragile here I will say good by. I was warned if I spoke out again I would be Banned.

    It's been fun. Good Bye.

Thanks for the reply guys, sorry to beat a dead subject with a stick. I asked this because I heard that San Diego Fire got some Pierces sometime last year then all of a sudden they got a couple of KMEs (heavy rescue, Haz MAt and a Quint). Also on Ferrara's website they claim to have apparatus in service with San Diego and I cannot verify with anyone that San Diego Fire has any FErraras in thier fleet. Check this out http://www.ferrarafire.com/company/facts/index.html

Truth be told you can say the name of any apparatus manufacturer and we will have someone with a horror story.

The bottom line is that every company puts out junk sometimes. Most trucks have some issues when they are first delivered. How has the truck been over the long haul? Did the company respond quickly and efficiently with warranty repairs?

We have several different manufacturers in our fleet and some have proven better than others. However, in several cases new units have been delivered from a brand that I truly respect and have turned out bad. I don't think there is one clear cut answer.

Hey TC33, call 35's, 46's or 55's and ask them about their FFA's. And as an update, HFD just order 7 more. Hmmmm.

Default Hmmmm more bad karma for KME

I pulled this from another forum.........

Top 11 Reasons Not to Buy a KME from LaFrance Fire Equipment of Elmira, NY

: Paint Job Sucks - Over spray on large portions of truck

2 : Fails to do required Underwriters testing before delivery

3 : Unable to get sales persons on the telephone when problems are discovered, nobody returns phone calls

4: Pump stuffed full of shop rags, and never removed

5: Pump had "Zero" hours on it when delivered, indicating that it has never been run

6: Electrical components on pump not protected from water draining from deck gun, no rubber seals, exposed wire ends

7: Self sealing ceramic seal was not sealed yet, another indication that UL pump testing was not done

8: Sales rep sits in his car when truck is delivered, gets out to get the check, then leaves, will not answer questions about certain things that were supposed to be done after it had it's final inspection, will not answer questions about things that were never finished

9: When drafting, water sprays out deck gun, with out it ever being engaged

10: Hoses from foam tank to pump were not connected, five gallons of foam ran out onto the floor when attempting to fill, sales rep did not return call

11: When KME Mechanic contacts the company, he is told to leave. Mechanic never returns, and sales persons make excuses, when threatened with complaints about fraud and breach of contract - they hang up.

    - Have three KME apparatus. Problems before included paint issues, faulty D ring handles on doors, otherwise mostly problems w/ the international chassis

    Thumbs up Check the Website

Should check out the new and improved website and look under trucks in prduction. It's a very good Idea and makes nice to follow your truck through each part of the production phase.

Rickyr, honestly, I am not gonna pass judgement on them as I have never worked off of or driven one myself. And if your who I think you are, its not fair for you to ask me that. They are all on the East side and I am a SW guy myself. As for what I have heard, I have heard of alot of small things, but that is to be expected from any new rigs when first placed in service. A year from now, if the same problems or more exist, then that will tell the tale. I will say this, I have a meeting with Chuck Small on Tuesday that I asked for.

As for my vote, hands down Ferrara over KME. Everyone knows the acronyms for KME, so no use repeating them. Ask Philadelhia about them. Or even LA County FD. Despite the feelings of the guys in the stations who use the rigs, they just awarded KME a huge contract for more rigs, this time on Predator chassis. I believe it was Arcadia (LA County area) that returned 2 rigs that were less than 1 year old and placed an emergency purchase from Pierce. Interesting.

Thanks for your reply Larry. You are probably right in your assumption of who I am. I was merely looking for your thoughts and input since you seem to have a pretty good handle on the apparatus
forums here. Thank you for you honesty.

    Exclamation

Of the two choices, Neither one! Have had them and wish that we hadn't.

Stay with Pierce or Seagrave, you won't go wrong, like you will with those others two and E-One!

Another great bashing (And added another manufacturer) with no substantiating reasons said as to why. I love it.
