The beloved father of our friend and colleague George Wendt passed away Thursday. Please post your condolences here.

BOONTON - George A. Wendt died Thursday, June 16, 2005, at St. Clare's Hospital / Denville following an apparent heart attack. He was 75.

Mr. Wendt was the owner/operator of the G. C. Wendt Tool Co. in Boonton for 43 years, retiring in 1986.

He served in the Air Force during the Korean War.

Active for 51 years with the Boonton Fire Department, he was an exempt member of Maxfield Hose and Engine Co. No. 1, and was Chief of the Department from 1972-1973.

A brother, Peter Wendt III, and a sister, Alypia Cutler, both died previously.

He is survived by his dear wife of 48 years, Gloria (Gallagher); four children and their spouses, George A. and Christine of Flanders, James L. and Wendy of Boonton, Carl E. and Jennifer of Boonton, and Lynn M. and Gordon Douglass of Clifton; two sisters, Elizabeth Masar of Montville, and Wilhelmina Koehler of Shelburne, Vt.; and 12 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 20, at 10 a.m. at the Mackey Funeral Home, 107 Essex Ave., Boonton with interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Boonton.

Friends may call on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Fire Department services will be held on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions in George's name may be made to the Kiwanis Ambulance Service of Boonton, P.O. Box 16, Boonton, N.J. 07005.

Rest in peace brother. You shall be missed by the entire community of Boonton, NJ....and in firehouses across the area. May I express the sympathies of the Oakland NJ Fire Dept. and the NJ Forest Fire Service crews from Division A.

Your job on earth is done, my brother. You will be missed by those that knew you, and many that had yet to meet you.

George, you've definitely honored your father, and represented him well. I'm sure he was very proud.

Active for 51 years with the Boonton Fire Department.
Now that's a legacy to be proud of.

You clearly have plenty to be proud of in your Father. He served his community and country in more ways than one, and left behind a good family.

Our thoughts and condolences are with you George.

I payed my respects to George's dad on Sunday afternoon. I can tell you all... that there was wonderful support from the firefighting, EMS and law enforcement members in and around the Boonton, NJ area. The Wendt family has quite a remarkable history of community service..and the community also turned out to express their sympathies.

George..may your Dad rest in everlasting peace. May God bless you and the entire Wendt family...and the entire brotherhood who shall miss Chief Wendt very dearly.

I'm just a phone call away....for whatever may be needed.
