We no longer live in a time when a group of untrained people can just decide there is a need for trained personel and decide they will do it instead. I can definetly see how this would do more harm then good and could even cause loss of life and property. Today people are happy to sue even legitament departments and personel, I can see them having a field day with these guys. Hell id sue them if they broke down my door or tried to give me medical attention. These guys deserve alot more then just a slap on the wrist. They were putting others in danger and themselves when they decide to aquire and opperate all the specialized equipment that most of us spend hundreds of hours learning how to use safely.

As a volunteer who had to take 300 hours of training just to make minimum staffing for our fire apparatus, who has to pull regular duty hours and can't just show up to something because it sounds good, etc., I really enjoy reading about these joyriders.
At least they were detected and stopped before they got someone killed.
