As a municipal firefighter working 24/48, I admire you guys pulling the 24/24 schedule. If I did that here, I'd probably go insane.

Default you are so right it sucks!

But thats how we make the little money we do. FLSA doesn't require us to be paid O/T until after 53 hours a week. Our money comes from the mandated
72 hour workweek. That 19 hours a week O/T adds up!

If we worked a 53 hour week like most city guys, we would all be a little happier but a lot poorer!

devildog, I work more hours, and make less money than the average 10 year on the job Philly Firefighter.....

And I suppose that the OT would be ok, AS LONG AS THEY PAID INTO OUR RETIREMENT FOR IT!!!!! AFTER ALL, IT IS CONSIDERED "MANDATORY OT!"

But, thats just Uncle's way of boning us in our sphincters for winning the pay reform lawsuit a few years back.

I have worked for a city, a county and now a Marine Corp base. we work a 72 hour work week and this is the MOST time off I have ever had since becoming a firefighter. When I worked for the city we worked 24 hours on 72 hours off, so we only got paid for 40 hours a week (everything above 40 was comp time except for call backs and sick leave ot), I had to work 2 other jobs to make any amount of money so I was gone anyway. Now I can live nicely on income from one place.....and I have everyother day off.
