*** REPORT FROM THE LINE OF FIRE ***

LOS ANGELES, CA:
GREATER ALARM STRUCTURE FIRE:

On Sunday, June 19, 2005 at 4:00 AM PDT, twelve Companies of Los Angeles Firefighters, three LAFD Rescue Ambulances, one EMS District Captain, two Battalion Chief Officer Command Teams and one team of LAFD Fire Cause Investigators, all under the direction of Assistant Chief Richard Warford responded to a Greater Alarm Structure Fire at 4177 West 3rd Street in Koreatown. The first Company arrived quickly to discover heavy smoke showing from a one-story commercial strip mall of modern construction. Firefighters swiftly forced entry and using handlines, mounted a brisk and decisive assault on the flames within “Maple Printing”, a 40’ x 60’ print shop at the east end of the complex. Timely and precise vertical ventilation by rooftop Firefighters further aided the successful effort to spare adjacent firms from damage. The flames were confined to the business of origin and extinguished in just 23 minutes. There were no injuries. Loss from the fire is estimated at $150,000 ($50,000 structure & $100,000 contents). The fire originated in or near an electrical panel and was fueled by combustible storage, including solvents stored nearby.

The Chicago Firefighter's Best Friend

"The Chicago Firefighter’s Best Friend" will be the first book to document the role and tradition of Chicago firedogs through real life stories, history, and photography. It will appeal to firefighters, dog lovers, and Chicagoans. We hope to have over 200 pictures and at least 100 firedog narratives assessing the important role dogs have played and continue to play in Chicago firehouses. A percentage of the proceeds generated from book sales will be donated to a charitable organization which assists victims of fires.
