I just received an e-mail from the Ohio Fire Marshal's Office regarding an incident today with a smoke bomb during a local news crew's filming of a consumer fireworks safety promo.
Excerpts from the e-mail:It appears that the devices were distributed over a 13 state area.WSYX-TV (Channel 6) purchased "novelty" fireworks from a Giant Eagle Store in Columbus today, and, with the assistance of the Columbus Division of Fire, proceeded to videotape a demonstration of the items for a fireworks safety demonstration to air today. Upon igniting an item labeled "smoke bomb", the crew received a surprise.
The device exploded with the force greater than an M80. It was in a package made by Phantom Fireworks labeled “Storm Chaser”. The device that exploded was labeled “Mammoth Smoke Fountain”

Yeah, I know. That's why I posted this seperately from the current thread. I assumed it would be lost in the rhetoric. I saw the video of this test after I posted it, and these things just simply exploded, plain and simple.Originally posted by MIKEYLIKESIT

As for people doing stupid stuff, I've seen people hold these fountains in their hands many, many times.I've also seen them light them while holding them prior to carefully setting it on the ground. If they hold this thing in their hands for any reason, they'll most likely be fitted with a prosthetic hook at some point in the future.Steve Gallagher
