Updated May 2005 Whenever robots are discussed, it seems the name tmsuk comes up. The small Japanese robotics company has collaborated with some of the biggest names in electronics to produce commercial robots in the last few years, and their concepts always seem to be innovative and imaginative, not to mention very useful. tmsuk is best known for its security robots Banryu and Artemis, a semi-humanoid security guard for hospitals and office buildings) so when Japanís National Research Institute of Fire and Disaster, strategised its next generation response to earthquakes and the fires they cause and decided it needed a robot for high risk situations, tmsuk got the call. Built for business, the strapping 3.5 metre Enryu will be called upon to rush into burning buildings, lift heavy objects and rescue people.

GREAT...Just what I need, another freelancer at the fire!

Only good thing about this robot is if the flashlight goes out I can hit Robbie the robot with an attack line and light the place up! Major Arcing!

God bless and pull the ceiling as you go.

    new mini-gun equipped exoskeleton.
I always thought mini-me was an invertebrate. He must have grown an exo-skeleton to help fend off Bou's attacks.

For all the life of me, i cant see a firefighter going to hell. At least not for very long. We would end up putting out all the fires and annoying the devil too much.

Tokyo Fire Department has been operating robots for some time actualy.

    ---------------------------------------------------

These Fire-Fighters Have No Fear of Danger

The Tokyo Fire Department started using robots in 1986. The first one was Rainbow 5, a robotic water sprayer on wheels. Rainbow 5 was designed to fight fires too big for firemen to approach, like a burning petrochemical complex or an airplane in flames. It can also get close to burning objects that might explode.
Rainbow 5 is remote controlled, and has four video cameras to transmit images of the fire. In one minute it can spray five tons of water or three tons of smothering foam.
Since Rainbow 5, the fire department has put seven other types of robots into service. Here are three of them: Jet Fighter, for action in manholes and cramped places; Fire Searcher, for reconnoitering dangerous places with a camera, heat sensor, gas density measuring device and other instruments; and Water Searcher, for diving underwater to rescue people who are drowning.

-Brotherhood: I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
-Mistakes: It could be that the purpose of you life is to serve as a warning to others.

-Despair: Its always darkest before it goes Pitch Black.

    Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto,
    Mata ah-oo hima de
    Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto,
    Himitsu wo shiri tai

    You're wondering who I am-machine or mannequin
With parts made in Japan, I am the modren man

I've got a secret I've been hiding under my skin
My heart is human, my blood is boiling, my brain I.B.M.
So if you see me acting strangely, don't be surprised
I'm just a man who needed someone, and somewhere to hide
To keep me alive-just keep me alive
Somewhere to hide to keep me alive

I'm not a robot without emotions-I'm not what you see
I've come to help you with your problems, so we can be free
I'm not a hero, I'm not a saviour, forget what you know
I'm just a man whose circumstances went beyond his control
Beyond my control-we all need control
I need control-we all need control

I am the modren man, who hides behind a mask
So no one else can see my true identity

    Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto, domo...domo
    Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto, domo...domo
    Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto, domo...domo
Thank you very much, Mr. Roboto
For doing the jobs that nobody wants to
And thank you very much, Mr. Roboto
For helping me escape just when I needed to
    Thank you-thank you, thank you
I want to thank you, please, thank you

The problem's plain to see: too much technology
Machines to save our lives. Machines dehumanize.

The time has come at last
    To throw away this mask
    So everyone can see
    My true identity...
    I'm Kilroy! Kilroy! Kilroy! Kilroy!

That's pretty cool- not only can it set up master streams, rescue victims from fires, collapses, and near-drownings, but it can also search for Sarah Connor.

I can just see me takeing that thing to fire prevention day, telling the 2nd and 3rd graders not to be afraid of ff in gear. When that thing would scare the @#$%!$%% out any normal adult in the broad daylite much less lumbering out of a smoke filled room! Fire Fighters are your friends? I saw Robo Cop, that thing would munch us all up.

    Cool

In the pics above I really like the one of the robot eating the body bag.

Okay - who changes the oil? And why doesn't each robot have to go through the state academy?

I have to admit that Robbie the robot may have more of a personality than some of the chiefs I've served under but I just picture that damn thing on a RIT TEAM. It comes in to save me, sticks its thumb in my mouth, fingers up my nose and carries me out like a bowling ball! Oh yea, and my leg that was pinned, tears it right off! Send in a brother or sister, black white red or green but dont send in no f------ machine!!!

God bless and pull the ceiling as you go.
