Children's burn camp to be held at Cape San Blas


The Children's Burn Camp of North Florida, Inc., is sponsoring Camp Amigo, a camp for children with burn injuries.

The camp, started by Tallahassee Fire Department firefighters for children ages 7 to 17, will take place at the Billy Joe Rish State Park at Cape San Blas July 11-16.

Tallahassee firefighter Rusty Roberts began the camp in 2001 to provide an outlet for the social and emotional growth of children with burn injuries. The event is wholly supported by donations. Camp "counselors" include TFD firefighters, with assistance provided by the Shands Hospital Burn Unit. There is no cost for participants and a few slots are available for camp, said Roberts.
