*** REPORT FROM THE LINE OF FIRE ***

2 Serious Apparatus Crashes (The Secret list)

This afternoon in Philadelphia, PA, a car collided with a responding tiller truck sending both into a store, with the car pinned under the tractor. The driver of the car has been pronounced dead. Five firefighters were transported to area hospitals along with one person who was inside the store and two others who were walking on the sidewalk. All firefighter injuries are reported to be non-life threatening.

And in Bourbon, Missouri, their newest apparatus was involved in a major accident last week. The firefighters were responding to another wreck that had been reported minutes earlier further down the highway, when their accident occurred.

Throughout the day on Wednesday, the Missouri Department of Transportation was " chipping and sealing" Highway N.

As the firefighters were responding to the other emergency call, they lost control on the freshly chipped and sealed roadway. This caused their fire apparatus to slide across the centerline and overturn onto the driver's side, and slid over 200 feet before coming to rest.

All four riding in the engine suffered injuries. Jeremy Chappius, 24, of Bourbon, suffered minor injuries. Jared Boast, 26, of Bourbon, and Jessee Lahmann, 15, of Bourbon, both suffered moderate injuries. All three were transported by EMS. Sean Johnson, 19, of Bourbon, suffered serious injuries. He was airlifted by Air Evac Helicopter. All of the firefighters were released the same night from their respective hospitals.

What is critical to note in this incident is that all firefighters were wearing their safety belts when the accident occurred.

We wish all Philly and Bourbon firefighters a quick recovery.

Take Care-Be Careful....Wear Seatbelts.

UNITED KINGDOM
LONDON, ENGLAND
FRIDAY 15 JULY

Wembley – factory fire update

Crews are still at the scene of a fire in a factory on South Way in Wembley. The blaze started yesterday morning in the two storey factory where 200 workers managed to leave before the Brigade arrived. The fire caused a number of gas cylinders inside the factory to overheat leading to the possibility that they may explode. As a result, an exclusion zone is still in place as fire crews work to cool the cylinders so they can be removed from the site. This process is expected to continue until sometime this afternoon.

Abbey Wood – garages blaze

Four people were evacuated from a block of flats this morning following a fire in an underground garage on Binsey Walk in Abbey Wood. The fire started in the garages under the flats causing thick smoke to penetrate through to the building above. Four people were evacuated by fire crews but were allowed back into their flats later this morning. The blaze destroyed around ten per cent of the garages as well as causing smoke damage to the flats above. Fire investigation officers believe that the fire may have been started deliberately. The Brigade was called at 0222 and the fire was under control by 0311. Crews from Erith and Plumstead fire stations attended the incident.

Harrow – family escape house blaze

A family managed to escape from a house fire in Vaughan Road in Harrow early this morning. The family were woken after smelling smoke and left the house safely before the Brigade arrived. The blaze had started in the roof of the two storey semi-detached house, causing it to collapse. A smoke alarm was found to be fitted but had failed to go off as the battery had worn out.

People are reminded to test smoke alarms every month by pressing the test button to make sure that the alarm can be heard throughout the house, especially in the bedrooms. Change the battery every year or according to the makers instructions, and get rid of dust by using a vacuum cleaner. The Brigade was called at 0238 and the fire was under control by 0359. Crews from Harrow and Northolt fire stations attended the incident.
