The third Pump was required to shuttle water from the nearest hydrant up to the pumps working at the fire.

Crews from Lambeth (HQ Fire Station) were on the scene immediately and were informed that a strong smell of fumes were reported throughout the 2nd Floor. Crews wearing CCPS and Crews from the Multi-Agency team who are based at LFB HQ were sent in to investigate. MIAT teams quickly established there was nothing of a terrorist nature involved and Fire Crews were left to deal with a leakage of ammonia discovered on the 2nd floor. Multiple crews were required due to the size of the Building, but once the source had been isolated and the Building ventilated, the Building was declared safe for the arrival of the LFB’s HQ staff.

F34 Chingford Persons Reported Fire 08:22
Crews from Chingford and Walthamstow were called to a fire in a flat on Stanley Road. On their arrival they found 25% of the four roomed 2nd floor apartment alight, with the occupier trapped inside. It was brought under control using 2 Hosereels working on both floors.

A34 Edmonton 6 Pump Fire, Cylinders reported. 14:29hrs
Firefighters at Edmonton Fire Station were alerted to a fire in a nearby road by the sound of an explosion. They quickly turned out to the incident to find a workshop Building 10 x 30m alight, one adjacent House well alight and the other had collapsed. Pumps were made up to six, and the conveniently located Rescue Unit and USART Unit based at Edmonton were also ordered onto the Incident. 200 Local people were evacuated into the care of the local authority while crews set up a number of Ground monitors to tackle the fire and limit spread. Three Cylinders had already exploded and another 10 were involved. The Metropolitan Police Helicopter provided a camera down link to the Command Unit enabling Officers to fully size up the area involved. Once the collapsed premises had been declared clear of Casualties , crews were withdrawn to a safe distance and the 24 hour arbitrary cooling period was instigated.

SUNDAY 17 JULY

Ashford – workshop fire

Six fire engines and 30 firefighters tackled a fire in a motor repair workshop in Challenge Road, Ashford, this weekend. The blaze caused a gas cylinder being stored in the workshop to overheat, leading to the possibility that it may explode. As a result, fire crews and police evacuated over 100 local residents to a local community hall and an exclusion zone was established while firefighters worked to cool the cylinder. The Brigade was called at 1539 on Saturday 16 July.
