*** REPORT FROM THE LINE OF FIRE ***

UNITED KINGDOM
LONDON, ENGLAND

MONDAY 18 JULY

Grass fires

The hot weather brought a spate of grass fires at the weekend, with the brigade called to large fires in Leytonstone, Feltham, Corbets Tey and Wanstead. Many grass fires are either started deliberately or happen through careless or thoughtless behaviour such as careless disposal of smoking materials or discarded glass bottles which concentrate the sun's rays. And one of the main problems facing the Brigade is stopping people - mostly children - starting nuisance fires.

Staples Corner Ė timber yard fire
Thirty firefighters and six fire engines remain at the scene of Saturdayís fire. The fire is under control but there are a number of small pockets of fire which fire crews are damping down.
