Default How hot is it in your part of the world?

We are looking at 99 on Sunday with a heat index of 115! An exessive heat warning has been issued for our area. Please, no structure fires in the next couple of days.

Heat index shouldn't get much over 97 on Sunday...we're supposed to get some showers and thunderstorms though, so that will be keeping things cooler than it has been. Still wouldn't want a structure in that...and ya gata remember, in direct sunlight add 15 degrees to your heat index temp.

Stay out of the sun, arhaney...

Hi everyone, it's been very interesting listening to everyone. I'm new to this forum. Anyway, the weather in Fargo, ND will be about 88 degrees tomorrow. Very comfortable, don't you think. For about 3 months of the year we are just about perfect !!

Today: mostly sunny. A 30 percent chance of isolated late afternoon thunderstorms. Highs around 100. Southwest winds 5 to 15 mph. Heat index readings 103 to 108.

I'll be golfing this morning with 7 guys on my crew. Temperature and heat index are based on shade temperatures. So it will be damn hot today.

In 2002, we had a fire when the temp was 106 and the H/I was astronomical. It was well enough involved that the side and back yard grass caught on fire. No big deal as far as fighting a structural fire, but afterward, taking your coat off to cool down didn't work. The outside temp didn't allow for the normal cool down.

The pumper driver had set up a fog nozzle on one of the discharges that help a lot and when it is that hot outside, we carry a cooler of iced down gatorade. In Kansas City, the humidity is usually is 80-90 percent in the summer.

"Some" rain? Ya mean that stuff that fell back in the middle of the month while I was there wasn't "rain"?? LOL Oh I know.. you had a couple of your wildland FF aircraft fly over dropping firecrackers (to simulate THUNDER) and empty their water holds during lunch, right?

I have been in South East Asia, and the Middle East a few times and not experienced that much rain in such a short time.

Speaking of 'fires', hows the place up in Northwood? LOL

dlrfd216, welcome to Da Crew! You'll find we do things a 'little differently' around here, keep a cool head and most certainly be open to criticism and sarcasm cuz both fly around in here regularly. I think you could say that those are both "Services we render".

The temp here is currently around 69, but the predition is low/mid 80s and humidty of about 73%. Tomorrow promises to be killer hot though.

Rick, WHERE are you? My thermometer hasn't seen 69 in so long it forgot what it looks like. Welcome to the Metro Sauna. Starting at a minimum of 75f, the temperature and humidity race to see which one gets over 100 first. And, they do that on a daily basis.

On a serious note, you can't do much to cut the heat and humidity, but you can do things (as Jerry noted) to help keep your crews safe. When I assume command of an incident that involves actively putting water on a Structure Fire, I order a Task Force (2 Engines and a Truck) in addition to the regular assignment. A ReHab Sector is established A.S.A.P. and the rehab area is out of the way, in the shade nearby. There will be at least one EMS unit dedicated to work the ReHab area, monitoring vitals, etc. Jerry mentioned flowing water, my thing is setting up a small line, with a fine mist, and directing that mist thru a Fan, usually a 16in. electric smoke ejector, over the ReHab area. We also can get an Air Conditioned Transit Bus brought to the scene, if needed.

The only problem I've ever had on the fireground was with heat, got myself a free ambulance ride......So I know what it feels like when you get too hot. Try to take care of your firefighters in these conditions!

On a side note.....How hot is it?

Where am I? Somewhere in the southend of Springfield, but that was just looking at the predictions on the Weather channel. I am quite sure that if I went outside and refered to the gauge in the truck it would read something like 35dC (only cuz I dont have am Imperial temp gauge yet) However, that would INSIDE the truck, not outside LOL. Oh and those temps were for Dulless A/P area too.

Its hot here, we have a heat warning for today and tomorrow.

HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE LOWER TO MID 90S THROUGH TUESDAY...WILL COMBINE WITH THE HIGH HUMIDITY TO PRODUCE HEAT INDEX VALUES OF 105 TO 110 DEGREES DURING THE DAYTIME HOURS. IN ADDITION...IT WILL REMAIN VERY MUGGY OVERNIGHT WITH LOWS ONLY DROPPING TO THE LOWER AND MID 70S.

Right now its 90 Degrees with a heat index of 99 Degrees.

Tomorrows high without the heat index is 98, and I work in a factory so its going to be around 115 in the shop. Last summer we only had 2 days that hit 90 or higher.

115 would be nice but 137 is where it was at yesterday. 0400 last night it was 92 degrees. Life is good but it is also hot.
