Thursday 21st July 2005

H37 Wallington 4 Pump Fire 1250hrs
Firefighters were called to a house on fire in Ash Close, Carlshalton on Thursday Lunchtime. They arrived at the two storey 30 x 15 property to find 75% of the first floor and a small part of the roof alight. The job was made up to 4 Pumps and the Fire was tackled by crews wearing BA using one jet, one Hosereel and a Thermal Image Camera.

E39 Bromley 3 Pump Grass Fire 1412hrs
2 Hectares of Grass plus 20 tons of straw were damaged at this grass fire in Oakley Road Bromley, crews set up a water shuttle to keep a constant supply of water onto the fire. Remaining Fire Crews used beaters and water packs to control the outbreak.

G24 Southall 4 Pump Grass Fire 1503hours
Crews from Feltham were called to a large grass fire on Marvell Avenue in Hayes. 4 Pump were called on to the job and 4 hectares of grass were extinguished using 4 Hosereels

E40 Sidcup 4 Pump Grass Fire 1640hrs
Grass Fires continued to plague the Brigade on this afternoon with another large outbreak in St Paul’s Cray. Again the job was made up to 4 Pumps and 4 hosereels and beaters were used to contain the 5 hectares of grass stubble and undergrowth.

A30 Islington Persons reported Fire 0147hrs
Crews from Islington Fire Station were called to a fire in a Maisonette on Nightingale Road in Islington; they arrived to fire a fire in progress on the second floor of the Maisonette. A member of public was rescued from the smoke by ground ladder suffering the effects of smoke inhalation. He was removed to Hospital by London Ambulance Paramedics. The fire which damaged 30% of the upper floor of the Maisonette was extinguished using a Hosereel by BA Crews.


Friday 22nd July

E39 Bromley 6 Pump Fire Aerial required 08:32
Bromley Firefighters were in action again for their 3rd major fire in a week. They were called at Breakfast time to a fire in a large detached House on Bickley Road, where the whole of the converted loft area of the 60 x 40 House was alight. Pumps were quickly made up to 6 and an Aerial requested to act as a water tower. A salvage Operation got underway while crews wearing BA and using ground ladder attacked the fire. Crews managed to contain the fire without using the water tower, preventing large scale water damage to the property.

G32 Ruislip Confirmed Hazmat Incident 1525hrs
A Small amount of mercury spilled at Grangewood High School in Eastcote caused the school to call the LFB for a Hazmat Response. The Mercury was made safe by crews and passed back to school staff.

F24 Shoreditch Persons reported Fire 1942hrs
Shoreditch Firefighters were called to a fire in a flat in Cranwood Court on Vince Street. A small fire was located in the property and the occupier was found unconscious, he was removed by Crews and passed to LAS paramedics. The small fire was then dealt with and the premise ventilated.

A21 Paddington 4 Pump Fire, Persons Reported 2316hrs
Crews were called to a fire in a flat in Hereford House on Carlton Vale. 50% of a five roomed flat on the 4th floor was alight with the occupier trapped. BA Crews rescued the man who was suffering from severe burns and placed him into the care of the LAS. Crews wearing BA then tackled the fire using one jet, one Hose reel and an Aerial Appliance

H39 Surbiton 4 Pump Fire 0636hrs
London Fire Control received multiple calls to a House fire on the busy A3 Hook Road in Chessington by passing commuters early on rush hour. Crews arrived to find 75% of the 2nd floor of the three storey 30 x 20 house alight. The Fire was soon brought under Control by BA Crews using 2 Hosereels.


Saturday 23rd July

G39 Feltham 3 Pump Grass Fire 1522hrs
2 Hectares of Grass and 15 stacks of hay were damaged by fire in a field in Hatton Road Feltham. Crews used 4 Hosereels, beater and a water relay to extinguish the fire.

E22 Greenwich 4 Pump Fire 0308hrs
Fire Crews from Greenwich, East Greenwich and Lewisham attended a basement fire in a large house in Manor Avenue. BA Crews brought the fire under control using a Hosereel once it was confirmed that no persons were trapped in the property.


Sunday 24th July

G24 Southall 4 Pump Fire 1232hrs
Crews from Southall were mobilised upon several reports of a fire in a house on Beaconsfield Road. They arrived to find the whole of the upper floor of the two storey House alight. Crews entered on the ground floor and fought the fire on the first floor using 2 hosereels and BA

H25 West Norwood 4 Pump Fire 2235hrs
25% of a 6 roomed 3rd floor flat on Tulse Hill was alight when crews arrived at the incident. Crew wearing BA quickly knocked the fire down using a Hosereel.


Monday 25th of July

G37 Chiswick Fire on Boat, Cylinders Reported 0412hrs
Crews from Chiswick and one of the Fireboats moored on the Thames at Lambeth Fire HQ were called to a fire on a boat on the River Thames at Chiswick. Crews arrived to find one boat well alight and the other under threat. However, they were to far from the shore for jets to reach. By the time the Fireboat arrived from Lambeth after approximately 20 minutes both of the derelict boats were alight with 2 propane cylinders involved. Crews on the fireboat used their monitor to extinguish the blaze and cool the Cylinders.


Tuesday 26th July 2005

F43 Barking Special Service 11:38hrs
LFB Crews are called many times every week to assist London Ambulance Service with a difficult Patient recovery. A call to assist was placed to LFB from LAS when a man had fallen from the 5th floor to the third floor of a school Building where contractors were working. LAS Paramedics and Doctors from London Helicopter Medical Service stabilized the Patient before LFB Crews using line rescue equipment brought him into the Building where he was transported to Ground floor level and removed to Hospital suffering severe spinal injuries.

G29 Park Royal 4 Pump Fire 1453hrs
Crews from Park Royal and North Kensington were called to a fire in a factory on the Tudor Industrial Estate in Park Royal. The scene of many major Industrial blazes over the years crews were ready fro a major fire when multiple reports were received at LFB Control and smoke was seen in the sky. Fortunately the Building was relatively small at 60 x 30 and crews conducted an aggressive interior attack using a jet managed to limit the fire to 25% of the building.

G35 Fulham Persons reported fire 0127hrs
Fire Crews called to a fire in a flat at Sullivan House, Peterborough Road found a quarter of the 5 roomed flat alight and a person trapped. BA crews rescued the person and extinguished the fire using a Hosereel.


Wednesday 27th July

G30 Wembley Persons reported Fire 1759hrs
Called to a fire in a shop and dwellings on Harrow Road in Wembley, crews found that a small fire was in progress on the first floor of the premises above the shop. A member of the public was rescued from the fire by BA crews and the fire was extinguished using a Hosereel.


Thursday 28th July

H33 Wandsworth 4 Pump Confirmed Hazmat Incident 2024hrs
Fire Crews were called to a Hazmat job in Dilton Gardens in Wandsworth. Crews in CCPS suits bagged up the chemical on advice from the Brigades scientific advisor and it was removed by a specialist team from the local Council. 2 Casualties who were overcome on the scene were treated by LAS.

E37 Peckham 4 Pump Fire 2140hrs
A Fire was reported in a shop and dwellings on Coldharbour lane in Camberwell. Crews arrived to find a quarter of the shop on the ground floor of the three storey Building and approximately 60ft of ducting alight. Pumps were made up to 4 and two Additional Pumps were sent from Brixton. Crews wearing BA extinguished the fire using 2 Hosereels.


Friday 29th July

E27 Erith 4 Pump Fire 0213 hours
Multiple calls began to come into LFB’s control room in the early hours of the morning. 4 Pumps were mobilised from Erith, Bexley and Plumstead to a house fire in Colyers Avenue in Erith. Crews arrived to find the whole of the roof of one house and half of the roof of the next house alight. An aggressive attack was mounted on the fire from inside the Buildings and the fire was brought under control using 2 jets. These were then substituted for 2 Hosereels to limit damage from water to the properties below.


Saturday 30th July

F34 Chingford 4 Pump Fire 1538hrs
Firefighters arrived at a house fire in Eaton’s Mead in Chingford to find the whole of the property alight. One person had escaped the fire by jumping from a 1st floor window and was removed by LAS. The fire was tackled by BA Crews suing 2 Hosereels.

A23 Euston Persons Reported Fire 1816hrs
Crews from Euston were mobilised to a fire in a High Rise flat on Osnaburgh Street in Euston. They arrived to finds that a small fire was in progress in the kitchen of the 8th floor flat and a person was overcome inside. The Person was rescued by BA Crews and the fire dealt with using a water extinguisher

F39 Hornchurch 3 Pump Fire 21:11hrs
The cooler Temperatures and rain during the past week had brought some respite for Hornchurch Crews after a run of grass fires some large some small day in day out over the past weeks. They were back in action again when someone torched a church hall attached to All Saints Church in St Mary’s Lane Upminster. 20% of the single storey Building was alight with 10% of the roof involved. They managed to contain the fire using 2 Hosereels and BA


Sunday 31st July 2005

G38 Heston Confirmed Hazmat Incident 2242hrs
Crews were called to waste ground on Hanworth Road in Hounslow when some youths dumped approximately 5 gallons of cellulose thinners there. CCPS crews diluted the spillage and used Environmental equipment to prevent run off entering the main sewers.

F26 Bethnal Green 6 Pump Fire Aerial Required 0052hrs
Multiple calls were received to a fire in a derelict warehouse at no41 The Oval in Bethnal Green. Crews arrived to find the whole of the 40 x 40 warehouse alight. Pumps were made up to 6 and an Aerial requested. Due to the stability of the Building, three jets and an aerial monitor were used in a defensive Operation to bring the job under control.

E31 Forest Hill Persons Reported Fire 0457hrs
An elderly lady was killed at a house fire on De Frene Road in Sydenham. Crews arrived at the fire to find three quarters of the ground floor of the House alight and the elderly lady outside having escaped with serious burns. The fire was extinguished by BA Crews using one hosereel. Crews were saddened to find out that despite her admirable effort to escape the fire, the old lady died shortly after arriving at Hospital.

Bethnal Green – warehouse blaze


Six fire engines and around thirty firefighters tackled a blaze at a warehouse on The Oval in Bethnal Green this morning. The fire has destroyed the entire single storey warehouse which was empty at the time. Crews are still at the scene making the area safe and an investigation into the cause of the blaze is currently underway. The Brigade was called at 0052 and the fire was under control by 0307. Crews from Bethnal Green, Whitechapel and Poplar attended the incident.


Sydenham – fire fatality

Crews are still at the scene of a fire at a house in De Frene Road in Sydenham where an 82 year old woman died this morning. Firefighters rescued her from the ground floor of the two storey house and she was later pronounced dead on arrival at hospital. The blaze has destroyed around seventy-five per cent of the ground floor, and the cause is still under investigation. No smoke alarms were found to be fitted inside the house. The Brigade was called at 0457 and the fire was under control by 0533. A crew from Forest Hill fire station attended the incident.
