    Default Diagram this sentence!

My count shows six consecutive prepositional phrases in this photo caption from a story about Sandra Bullock working in her sister's bakery.

(And that sentence had lots of prepositional phrases, too!!)

"Both Bullock and the pastries turned out to be big draws because the pastries sold nearly as fast as Bullock's sister, shop owner Gesine Prado, could churn them out of the kitchen in the back of the renovated shop in a largely residential area on the northern fringe of the state capital."

My late, great 8th grade English teacher would be proud of me!

Yes, as a matter of fact! The A/C has been out for two weeks, it's 93 outside today, and I'm trying not to do too much physical activity.

    Default egads!

You just brought back a horrible memory from elementary school.... In the school I was attending at the time (St. Peter's School) the two 5th grade nuns swapped for a portion of the class. Sister Robert Timothy (the nice one) would go across the hall to teach history. Sister Agatha (if you looked up the words "old battleaxe" in the dictionary, her pic would be there!) would come and teach English.

As part of "punishment" ( the mere act of dropping a pencil would send her off on a rampage), she would make us take out our cathechisms, pick a page and have the class diagram every single sentence on the page...

"be sure to diagram properly...subject, predicate and all the parts of speech" that was 42 years ago, and I still remember it to this day!

That was the name she took when she took her final vows to enter religious life. As far as nuns go, she was very young at the time, she would probably be in her 70's now.

I went to Catholic Schools for 6 years, and I have this fear that I am going to run into some of the old battleaxes I had for teachers and they will have memories that never forget!

We have three retirement homes for nuns here in the City, who knows?

Gonzo - Wow I did not realize nuns would take male names when they took their vows.
You better brush up on your diagramming of sentences, with 3 homes for nuns you are bound to run into one.
