LOS ANGELES, CA:
MAJOR EMERGENCY STRUCTURE FIRE:

On Tuesday, August 02, 2005 at 3:58 PM PDT, sixteen Companies of Los Angeles Firefighters, six Los Angeles Fire Department Rescue Ambulances, three EMS District Supervisors, four Battalion Chief Officer Command Teams and various LAFD support and investigative resources, all under the direction of Assistant Chief Roderick Garcia responded to a Major Emergency Structure Fire at 14603 Titus Street in Panorama City. The first Company arrived quickly to discover smoke showing from a 60’ x 150’ one-story commercial structure. Firefighters forced entry into the front and rear of the well-secured furniture manufacturing business to discover stubborn fire deep within a mezzanine area that was bordered by and contained immense amounts of dense combustible storage. Using handlines and aided by their colleagues deftly performing vertical ventilation on the panelized roof, Firefighters mounted a relentless attack on the stubborn flames, which had taken hold of the front-third mezzanine level of the non-fire sprinklered business. Firefighters extinguished the flames in just 57 minutes, and spared much of the business and adjoining firms from damage. No injuries were reported. Loss to “Kalfon Craft”, a manufacturer of fine furniture, is estimated at $400,000 ($100,000 structure and $300,000 contents). The cause of the blaze was determined to be electrical in nature.

Respectfully Yours in Safety and Service,

UNITED KINGDOM
LONDON ENGLAND
TUESDAY 2 AUGUST

London Fire Brigade was called to an incident involving a small fire on a bus in Grays Inn Road, close to Kings Cross station at 1438 today. Three fire engines and one fire rescue unit attended the scene. Police were called to the incident, which has been declared safe. The cause of the fire is being investigated.

East Finchley – blaze at allotments

Crews are still at the scene of a fire in a shed that started this morning on a row of allotments in High Road in East Finchley. The blaze caused a number of gas cylinders being stored inside the shed to overheat, leading to the possibility that they might explode. As a result, an exclusion zone has been put into place around the area while crews work to cool the cylinders. This procedure is expected to take around twenty-four hours. The Brigade was called at 0255 and crews are still at the scene.

Ealing – man rescued from house fire

A man was rescued by firefighters after a blaze broke out in a house on Hanger Lane in Ealing yesterday morning. The fire started on the first floor of the three storey house where the man became trapped on the second floor. He was led to safety by crews using an internal staircase and taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. The blaze destroyed a small area of the first floor and the cause is still under investigation. The Brigade was called at 0808 and the fire was under control by 0841. Crews from Ealing and Acton fire station attended the incident.
