Red face The New Forum Look

Not quite sure what I think of it, I appreciate the site admins and designers for all the hard work put into this site but I think the other forums looked more professionally done and these look a little more game console looking.

(After further reveiw I LOVE IT !)

Thanks for the feedback and keep it coming

Be sure to go to the User CP (control panel) and check your settings...lots of new stuff to change and such.

There are a few minor bugs like smileys and such we're still working to adjust.

Parts of it are impressive and look much better, and some of it looks pretty childish. Have to agree that the old forums looked more professional as a whole.

Are you referring to the color scheme ?

That would be my only complaint, not having the ability to change the scheme / color settings. I know on some software packages that's an option, but not all.
Is that a feature that could be turned on with the choice to chose a "Classic" or "Modern" version of the forums color scheme?

I think we can all agree that it was a well needed upgrade, and the downtime was definately worth the time to get new forum software.

Once you get used to this format, you'll like it more than the old one.

    Thumbs down Changes

I thought that I was linking to thewatchdesk.com when I came on this evening. I had to do a double take.

May take some time to get use to this change.

I like the way it was before the changes better. Just my opinion.

    Folks

This is the same program we've always been using, just the newest version. Been three years since we upgraded, so it looks like other sites because its the same software many other sites use.

We'll probably tweak the colors and logos and such moving forward, so try not to focus on that too much. Mainly check out all the new features and be sure to go to 'User CP' and then 'Edit Options' to set your PM options and more.

Also important to note the PM limit has been upped to 100 for regular users, and 200 for MembersZone subscribers. More additions coming. You should also note we have gone to the full screen version. Almost 80% of you are using the wider screen, so this will allow users to see the most content in their entire screen available.

I just tried to upload some new pics on the Off Duty side and I got a "Exceeds your quota by 3.79 MB" error. When I checked into it, I was informed that I had posted some 200 plus attachments. It appears that I have exceeded my limit for posting photos. Any thoughts on this?

As for the appearance..... I know that the page is driven by the same software and that all that has been changed really is just how it is presented. I like some of the features (I think) but it will take some getting used to.

The user CP seems to be wrong. When I reviewed my info and edited it a little, it said I had entered an invalid birthday when I had'nt even seen this option.

The hard work put into this is appreciated. I don't think too many of us are aware of how much work goes on to make these types of changes.

That being said - The colors are harsh on the eyes.

I know my opinion doesn't mean, um anything yet.

But I hate it. It's just not smooth. The black background is too much contrast, a dark gray would look much much much better

Well, if nothing else, the WebTeam should get a medal for bravery. Making drastic changes in the presence of a bunch of firefighters is risky at best. :-) I'm not sure about the change, but I'm sure I'll like it just fine with time.

My biggest problem so far is that I deleted my avitar with plans to upload a new one. Except that now my old one is gone and I don't see where I can upload a new one. WT, can you point me in the right direction?

oh. I do like the new program for the forum though. The layout of the forum itself is head and shoulders above the way it used to be. It's just the colors that are getting me down.

and that fact that I can't figure out how to upload an avatar.

This may or may not be the place to say it, but I think a "Military" subsection under Hiring and Career Central or whatever it's called, would be useful.

You know, just throwin' that out there.

I must be a creature of habit too. I got used to the old, and now the new looks so odd.

    Rick,

I was thinking that if you went back and deleted some of the pictures that you have posted in the past it may make a difference of the reading of how much you've uploaded. It's worth a try at any rate. I dunno if it will work or not.

As for the new layout...... I like it!!!! I don't think it's "childish" or "gamish" at all. It fits my screen MUCH better than the old one

One big PLUS that I noticed when replying to this thread is that there is only a REPLY button now at the bottom, not a New Thread so that should make Josh's life a lot easier LOL hehehehehehehehee He won't have to run around saying "Pardon me Sir ........"

Well, I only see the white background so I'm assumming it has been changed.

Anyway, I like it much better that the old version. It seems to be running much more smoothly to me.

    Good Job Webteam!

I just tried to upload some new pics on the Off Duty side and I got a "Exceeds your quota by 3.79 MB" error.
We checked into this and adjusted as follows:
    - Regular users have maximum 'attachment' storage of 3MB TOTAL
    - MembersZone Subscribers do not have a limit

Right now most active users utilize far less than that amount of space so that should be all good.

Also, maximum file size of ANY upload is 100K (pictures, etc), with maximum height of 1200 pixels and max width of 500 pixels. This will ensure no one kills a thread with some gigantic photo.
