Fire destroys boat, damages garage
Last update: July 28, 2005
An afternoon fire Wednesday destroyed a speed boat and ravaged the garage of an upscale home in Palm Coast.
Though no one was seriously injured in the 4 p.m. blaze, firefighters had to endure a series of minor explosions from transformers and what could have been fireworks in the garage, Palm Coast Fire Chief Michael Beadle said.
Firefighters didn't enter the garage to douse the flames, Beadle said. Instead, they shot a heavy stream of water from an engine across the street and used a ladder truck to spray from above.
"If we've got to use a ladder, it's not a good situation," Beadle said.
Crews also fought the fire with hoses on the ground. The fire was confined to the garage and the house itself did not sustain fire damage, Beadle said. But dense black smoke billowed high into the air, and it was visible from several miles away.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, Beadle said.
Property records for Flagler County show the home is owned by Sean L. Bishop, a manager at a Daytona Beach exotic dance nightclub.
