Nothing because it's raggedy and needs to be replaced.

Our sign isn't all that big, so we just announce fundraisers, our Open House, wish people a nice holiday, or remember our Veterans and 9-11 Heroes when the time comes.

Depending on your space and the season...

    School's Open, Drive Carefully

    Know 2 Ways Out

Do you have a meeting place?

Do you have a working smoke detector?

Change Your Clocks, Change Your Batteries

If Your Clothes Catch On Fire: Stop, Drop, and Roll

    Be Careful with Candles

Practice Pool (Boat, BBQ, Water, etc.) Safety

Practive EDITH (Exit Drills in the Home)

Do you know who to call in an emergency? (In my town, we have 24-7 dispatchers, so for people to call 911, 911 has to call us -- an extra step.)

Riding a bike (skateboard, scooter, etc.)? Wear a helmet.

Currently, congrats to 2 members for having their newborn children.
Before that, Harley raffle ticket info.
Coming soon....probably go back to our members needed sign. "No joke. Members needed" and a phone number to call. Last time it was up, got us 5 new members.

Right now we are going through a recruitment stage in our fire department.

It says: Do you want to be a volunteer firefighter? Contact your local fire department

    Cool We have no message

    We don't have a sign.

Okay, I take that back... Public works does hang banners in our yard. Last time I looked, they advertised baseball leagues and youth football. Not sure if that will work for your department, though.

“Though these doors walk the best people on earth. Our residents.” On the main doors.

At the back door it says” Welcome to your Fire Department Chartered 1949 Established 1927"

During the holiday season ( Help us Help you ) Underneith it explains that we are volunteers and all donations are welcome. It is a huge wooden colored sign.

During the spring and fall ( change your clocks, change your batteries ) or something like that.....LOL, although this banner only goes up for like a week before daylight savings time.

In the summer another huge wooden sign with a picture of flames in the background says, (volunteers always welcome).

Then there are the months that go by where there are no signs....LOL!!!
You need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the duct tape.

    Right now it says...

"Ever dream of being a firefighter as a kid? It's never too late..."

Followed by dept. name and phone #.

At other times it announces fundraisers, events, and sometimes just a fire safety/prevention message.

I think next I'll put back up "NO VOLUNTEERS, NO VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPT. HELP WANTED." It seemed to be pretty effective. I don't think it got us any new active firefighters but maybe some more auxiliary support, which is always nice too.

We don't have signs on our buildings.Recruiting seems to be word of mouth.Lately when I'm at work and have on a departmental shirt,I'll have people strike up a conversation about being a volunteer and I'll invite them to a training meeting to see what it's like.(nothin' but love amongst friends)

I hope I am misunderstanding... you don't discourage use of 911 in favor of a 7 digit number, do you?

Whenever a little kid tells us " I want to grow up and be a firefighter", we have a guy that replies, "well, son, you can't do both!"

The only sign at our stations read as follows:

The property maintained by citizen volunteers.

They were placed there after a successful tax roll back and the removal of the contract for yard maintenance.

You can see the one sign we put up after our tax measure failed the third time. We had this nice new station built with developer mitigation money but no one to staff it but people didn't realize that there was nobody in it so the chief had that sign made up. The other sign is for our monthly breakfast, bacon, sausage, eggs, pancakes, French toast, fried potatoes with cheese, biscuits and gravy, chili, and a little fruit salad and orange juice to keep the scurvy off, and also helps drum up business in the cardiac department.
