Default New Member in Western NY

    Hello brothers and sisters.

My name is Tim. I am a new member to the boards as well as a new member to my volunteer department. My father was a volunteer Firefighter and EMT until he passed away last year. He got me into firefighting when I was 16. I was the only member of a junior section of my hometown department till I was 18, then moved up. Was there for about 3 more years then moved to western ny. I volunteered briefly at one department here then moved again, and have recently joined my new department.

I have a lot of training to go through as NY is an OSHA state where as ID was not, so any training I had out there I have learned is VOID here. Oh well, I would rather start fresh anyway and get everything I need.

All I have to say, is it is GREAT to be back in the family.

I'm 19 years old and a new volunteer firefighter and I hope to go to paramedic school in a year or two.

    Welcome
I wouldn't say the training you had is void. The previous training will at the very least give you a head start and make it a little easier to get through the reqiured training here. You may even have some idea's that weren't thought of and maybe you can share those with your instructors and fellow FF's.

Oh yeah PESH is in place of OSHA here for public employee's. This includes Vollie FF's. Doesn't really mean anything though, they enforce OSHA"S rules.
This is my opinion and in no way represtents the opinion of my department.

Thanks for the welcomes back. And PEETMOSS, good point. It will be a good headstart. Least I can hit the ground running rather than starting from square one like I did back then.
