*** REPORT FROM THE LINE OF FIRE ***

    UNITED KINGDOM
    LONDON, ENGLAND

    TUESDAY 16 AUGUST

West Ealing – two escape flat blaze

Two men managed to escape from a fire in a flat above a shop on Uxbridge Road in West Ealing early this morning. The men were woken by passers-by who saw smoke coming from the flat, and managed to leave before the Brigade arrived. Four fire engines and around twenty firefighters tackled the blaze which destroyed around half of the flat. Fire investigation officers are helping police to determine the exact cause of the fire. No smoke alarm was fitted inside the flat. The Brigade was called at 0044 and the fire was under control by 0123. Crews from Ealing and Southall fire stations attended the incident.

St Johns Wood – flat fire

Four fire engines and around twenty firefighters tackled a fire in an eleventh floor flat on Abbey Road in St Johns Wood yesterday afternoon. The fire destroyed around three quarters of the flat which was empty at the time. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The Brigade was called at 1705 and the fire was under control by 1758. Crews from West Hampstead and Belsize fire stations attended the incident.

Edmonton – fire at incinerator plant

Firefighters are still at the scene of a fire that started at an incinerator plant on Advent Way in Edmonton last night. The blaze caused an acetylene cylinder inside the boiler room of the plant to overheat leading to the possibility that it may explode. Fire crews evacuated workers from the building and are currently working to cool the cylinder. This is expected to continue until later this evening. The fire has destroyed a small area of the boiler room in the basement of the building. The Brigade was called at 1942 and firefighters are still at the scene.

    Greenford – fire fatality

A woman has died following a fire in Sudbury Heights Avenue in Greenford last night. The Brigade was called after neighbours saw smoke coming from the top floor of the two storey house. Firefighters found the body of the 54 year-old woman in a bedroom, and she was later pronounced dead at hospital. No smoke alarm was fitted inside the house. The blaze destroyed around a quarter of the first floor bedroom and fire investigation officers believe that that the fire was started accidentally. The Brigade was called at 2009 and the fire was under control by 2039. A crew from Wembley fire station attended the incident.
