The original plan was mid-August, possibly tomorrow, but that was with the assumption that the AFG awards would have been rolling along already, so they may not start/finish until next Friday. There's only 130 of them, so 1 round ought to take care of all of that fun.

That's what I figured... BC79er threw me off when he said they might start/end next Friday... I figured it would be a few weeks after the Qs and 1199A come out before the awards....

BC79er where did you get the information that there will only be 130 awards? Any info on the spread between career, combonation, and volunteer?

Oh let's just leave it as I have a few friends in the right places.
I did not get a breakdown of the type of departments awarded, but I did hear from a Reviewer Bird (kinda large wingspan, migrates to Maryland once a year) that they will be heavy on hiring versus recruitment, just because it's very easy to justify the benefits of a FF sitting at the station in terms of guaranteed responders. It is an uphill battle to prove that recruitment and retention efforts will guarantee minimum manpower all of the time in the way that a paid person in house will.
And since the average award ends up being around $500K, and hiring is more expensive, I think that analysis was pretty accurate. This is just like the 2001 AFG, no one really knows exactly what is going to happen until it does.

Not that I've heard, but with only 130 awards coming, there might not be anyone around the forums that's going to be in the winners circle. Kinda like in 2001, there were only about 20 of us even in the Grants Forums. It took about 5 rounds before any of us had even heard of someone being awarded.

With as many people on the forums nowadays, you would think that at least 1 person would have heard something. Unless they are keeping their cards close to the vest.

Starting to get impatient....
I am one of those FF waiting to get hired and I don't know how much longer i can take this waiting game.
FWIW, thanks for the info all of you, it makes the time more tolerable....

Back in '01 I was too busy trying to keep writing my grants and keeping up with my FDs (lurked a time or two...or three hundred) but no time to post anywhere...
Worked FT and wrote grants, attended FREE FEMA workshops, etc...

Since everything has been pushed back, I'm sure this went with the rest. The procedure will be the same, ?s and 1199A. I see 1 round, there are only going to be right around 130 awards.

Spoke to a Lt. from a neighboring dept. yesterday and he advised me they had received SAFER questions last week. Don't know any other info. other than this. Will try to find out more. I've been lurking here for a while now and thought I'd add my two cents worth.

According to the latest information I have recieved, the SAFER grants will probably not be out till around Oct 31st. FP&S, DJs for AGP and the situation in New Orleans are in fact causing some delays.Patience folks!

I had patience today. I mean patients. 15 ambulances at the Astrodome and surrounding complex, and my box made 12 runs. At least they're down to about 12,000 evacuees left. They're getting people back on their feet at a decent pace.

What he menat was the ambulance ( box) he was assigned to made 12 runs.
BC79ER, I see you are keeping true to your word of not only helping everyone in here, but doing it in real life too. Hats off to you! I took my turn in the box last year during the 3 hurricanes that hit my county. I personally led my neighborhood through three entire search rescue, and recovery efforts until FEMA and the locals wre able to respond 10 days later ( and they were bitching in New Orleans, we went ten days without a bit of outside help). No electricity, water or sewer!) Luckily sevral of us had been through Andrew and we knew what to expect.Kurt Bradley

Bone box, band-aid wagon, 911 Taxi Service, gut bucket, rolling hospital. I'm sure there are more people can think of but wrong thread for it.

Although the patience-patients, and 'what's a box' question further prove that there is always a message sent, but only through feedback can one assure that the message is received. This is why there's the joke that the US and England are two countries separated by a common language. Think of how many regional names there are for an unmanned portable master stream device.
And we also had 2 ambulances from Northglen, Colorado that have been at the Reliant Complex since last week. Hats off to them, that was a long drive, and long hours put in while there. I believe they are returning home today.
