Upper Holloway – man taken to hospital

A man was taken to hospital last night following a fire in a flat on Girdlestone Walk in Upper Holloway. The blaze started on the second floor of the four storey block where the man was led to safety by firefighters using an internal staircase. He was later taken to hospital suffering from burns. A further sixty people were evacuated from the building to a local leisure centre. Four fire engines and around twenty firefighters tackled the fire which destroyed the entire second floor flat and caused serious smoke damage to the rest of the building. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation. The Brigade was called at 1951 and the fire was under control by 2147. Crews from Kentish Town and Holloway fire stations attended the incident.
