My dream and I hope you don't find this too crazy is that I would like the people of this community to feel that if, God forbid, there were a fire, calling the fire department would actually be a wise thing to do. You can't have people, if their houses are burning down, saying, 'Whatever you do, don't call the fire department!' That would be bad."

In the Hope Fire Co. Pizza Hut video, did you hear dispatch tell them that he can't understand them because of the blaring siren? I have no idea what he's talking about!

Keep in mind that I like making noise going down the road just as much as the next guy, but I have to admit, and some may disagree, but it drives me nuts when traffic is at a standstill because of construction or whatever, and there's really no place for the car(s) in front of you to go, and people sit there behind them with the Q maxed out and air horns blasting. They know you're there and that they have to get out of the way, but there's nowhere for them to go. I think it may just cause people to do something drastic and cause more problems if you're sitting there blasting them. Plus it's loud to have a fire truck parked next to your open window with the siren going. I dunno, bad PR I think.

But I do enjoy going through intersections watching people plug their ears, and try to talk on their cell phones as you and your sirens go by

Yea, the Incident Commander says "11-10 I can't understand with your siren blaring"

And the thing is, that officer didn't need that Q ripping in stanbd sotp traffic just the electronic.

Also, when then engine turned into the Pizza Hut, the Q is still going off, not needed lol.

    AND

I agree, I love to blast the sirens as much as the next guy, but you can't let that Q max out for too long, drivers ignore it because its a constant High pitch sound the Qs made to wind up and down to get traffics attention....

On the Video when Engine 11-10 responded to the Area hospital, there's no need to rip that Q in the middle of the morning with no traffic, stop signs yes go for it but not randomly

    AND lol

I'll be recording my companies responses. You'll need Quicktime to View the videos until I figure how to code them for Windows Media Player

First, you know that the Q just doesn't stop just like that. Maybe they don't have a siren brake on their Q.

Second, i'll agree with the thing about the hospital response. However, it could be written in their SOPs/SOGs about use of Sirens and they could just be following them. I dunno, i don't run with them. They are cool videos though.

The whole point of winding up and laying on the horns when stopped is to get the point across to the people at the front of the line, that can hear you if you're not too far away from them. If they have anywhere to go, they should move over. Another reason would be to get the person directing traffic for the construction company (if one) to let your line move.

As I stated in another thread:

    Hey EngCo29,

Why are you coming on to firehouse.com forums and posting trash about Hope Fire Company when we both know that what you are posting is total BULL****!

    Explain yourself....

As for the video of the AFA to the hospital, listen to the dispatcher announce the response time, its 17:47 hours, hardly the middle of the morning.

I totally agree....we have an SOG that clearly states at an intersection where the light is red...and the opticom is not picking up or whatever, just to cut off the siren and keep lights on. Where in the heck are the people supposed to go?
