Thornton Heath – rubbish Fire
Two fire engines and ten firefighters attended a rubbish fire outside an 11 storey block of flats in Thornton Heath last night. The rubbish was stacked close to the wall and adjacent to a gas pipe which subsequently burst. Crews put out the blaze and then sealed the broken pipe. An older person evacuated the building after smelling the smoke and was taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service. The Brigade was called at 2059 and the fire was under control by 2139. Crews from Norbury and Croydon fire stations attended.


Barking – families rescued from flat fire
Fire crews rescued two families who were trapped in their flats after a rubbish fire in a block of flats in Abridge Way, Barking last night. The blaze started of the fifth floor of the nine-storey block and caused extensive damage to the corridors and walkways. Twenty firefighters and four fire engines were at the scene. The brigade was called at 2144. Firefighters from Barking, East Ham and Dagenham firs stations attended. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
