This is really an eye opener!
We all know that water is important but I've never seen it written down like this before.
WATER
1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. (Likely applies to half world population.)
2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger.
3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3%.
4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington study.
5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.
6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.
7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.
8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50%less likely to develop bladder cancer. Are you drinking the amount of water you should every day?
COKE
1. In many states (in the USA) the highway patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the trunk to remove blood from the highway after a car accident.
2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of coke and it will be gone in two days.
3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl and let the "real thing" sit for one hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous china.
4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds Wrap aluminium foil dipped in Coca-Cola.
5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion.
6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Applying a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes.
7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminium foil, and bake. Thirty minutes before the ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for sumptuous brown gravy.
8. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of coke into a load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your windshield.
FOR YOUR INFORMATION:
1. The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. Its pH is 2.8. It will dissolve a nail in about four days. Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major contributor to the rising increase in osteoporosis.
2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup (the concentrate) the commercial truck must use the Hazardous Material place cards reserved for highly corrosive materials.
3. The distributors of coke have been using it to clean the engines of their trucks for about 20 years!
Now the questions are:
1. Would YOU like water or coke with your Whiskey?
2. Or neat as it should be enjoyed?![]()

Sorry Kiwi;
The water thing is good. Do you have a source for it?
The Coke thing is bad.

George.
Naughty Naughty Kiwi.
Of course it was bollocks, even me with 1/2 a sober brain cell could see that.
I just reckoned it might be a way to introduce a serious discussion about the need for rehab and maintenance of ones self as an effective Firefighter.
(Bloody good recovery that, if I do say so myself)
As for the source, we got shed loads of damn fine springs down here, want a bottle?Psychiatrists state 1 in 4 people has a mental illness.

I figured that the water thing may have had a shred of truth to it. My wife is a nurse and is a firm believer that people do not drink enough water.

Coke is for rum, Silly Bird
Whiskey, with maybe a splash of water - depends on the quality of the whiskey of course. GOOOD STUFF doent need reinforcements!
Howerver, excellent topic as far as rehydration goes. I know I am guilty of not taking enough water in a day. Mostly because I work in a climate controlled office, but at home, if I start working (which does happen occasionally LOL) then yep. Lots of water. Filtered or bottled only - city water here SUCKS!If you don't do it RIGHT today, when will you have time to do it over? (Hall of Fame basketball player/coach John Wooden)

Mythbusters did a segment on the Caustic Coke Myth. Anyone see it? They tried to eat thru a nail, a tooth, rust etc. The myth was totally "busted" But if I recall correctly, they said it did a fine job on the chrome bumper.

Harve I saw one other guy drink Jack and Ginger Ale. That was former Chicago Fire Commissioner James Joyce. Bourbon and sour mash (Jack) should be served neat. I drink my scotch on the rocks.
