We've had some for almost 5 years, only had a problem with one. Audio is a little weak but reception is good. We've got the FS3 model. We got the programming software with ours so we can make changes if we need to.
I've dropped mine several times and it still works.

The ICOM's work good with a repeater.

You may get more views/replies if this was in a diffrent section instead of the Grants/Funding section.......

This could be well true, however I am puchasing hand held radios with Grant money.

We currently using Kenwoods and are not so pleased with them, have looked at the Motorla's and they seem like a fairly decent radio. The ICOM's are a compact unit and it appears to function well. So we are looking for support from other dept's on how durable they are.

We've used ICOM's for about 5 years now. Like them very much. They are more reliable than most of the other brands we looked at - including Motorola.
Remember, it IS as bad as you think and they ARE out to get you!
