Russia to Send 3 Planeloads of Aid to Help Katrina Victims

Russia’s Emergencies Ministry will deliver diesel-powered generators, food, water and tents to areas of the United States affecxted by Hurricane Katrina. The deliveries will be made on three flights by Il-76 cargo aircraft, the RIA-Novosti news agency reports.

A spokesman for the ministry told the agency that U.S. authorities agreed to accept Russian help. A list of the goods that will be airlifted to the hurricane-hit areas has been made, he said.

“Power generators, individual food rations, tents, drinking water and bandages are the basic items in the Russian humanitarian aid,” the official said.
