Just curious, FDNY has around 11,000 members in their department. Is that including the fleet mechanics and any administrative positions? If so, is there a rough number on how many "street" FF's and officers there are? Also a little curious on how many on duty at a time?
Just came up in a conversation the other day and the guys I know couldn't answer off hand.
No, I'm not a terrorist or have any motives behind asking this, just was kind of curious.

FDNY question
"This thread is being closed as it is off-topic and not related to the fire industry." - Isn't that what the Off Duty forum was for?

Bones,
As far as I'm aware the 11,000+ is the sworn uniformed membership of firemen and officers. (approx 8000 Firemen. and 3000 Officers and Chiefs). The support personel numbers I imagine number 500 to 1000 persons, maybe more or less. EMS division of FDNY has about 4000 persons which isn't included in the above number.
As for how many are on every tour...probably around 2500(Fr's and Officers combined.) This is just a best guess though.
