I am putting together an article for a future issue of the magazine on the disparity in the levels of fire protection in the US, with a special emphasis on volunteer departments. I have seen firsthand, what I call the "haves" who can afford just about anything, and the "have nots" who may not even have a vehicle that started life as a fire apparatus in their station (if indeed they have a station to park in).
If you think your agency falls into either category, or know of a department that does, I'd appreciate it if you'd drop me a line directly at barryfurey@comcast.net. Your help is greatly appreicated.
