Default Tired of High Gas Prices?

BERLIN (Reuters) - A German inventor has angered animal rights activists with his answer to fighting the soaring cost of fuel -- dead cats.

Christian Koch, 55, from the eastern county of Saxony, told Bild newspaper that his organic diesel fuel -- a home-made blend of garbage, run-over cats, and other ingredients -- is a proven alternative to normal consumer diesel.

"I drive my normal diesel-powered car with this mixture," Koch said. "I have gone 170,000 km (106,000 miles) without a problem."

The website of Koch's firm, "Alphakat GmbH", says his patented "KDV 500" machine can produce what he calls the "bio-diesel" fuel at about 23 euro cents (30 cents) a litre, which is about one-fifth the price at petrol stations now.

Koch said around 20 dead cats added into the mix could help produce enough fuel to fill up a 50-litre (11 gallon) tank.

But the president of the German Society for the Protection of Animals, Wolfgang Apel, said using dead cats for fuel was illegal.

"There's no danger for cats and dogs in Germany because this practice is outlawed in Germany," Apel told Bild on Wednesday in a story entitled "Can you really make fuel out of cats?"

"We're going to keep an eye on this case," Apel said.

There was an update report this morning stating that Herr Koch did not at anytime use dead cats, although he did allude to the fact that they might work. He did comment that perhaps a rat or two might have made it into the mixture.

    Naw, it won't work.

If the fuel is made of cats, your car will drive around aimlessly, and it won't do what you want it to.

Not to mention, think of the size of the hairballs!!

In Michigan they are cracking down on high gas prices quite a bit. They have already arrested a pair of men who fixed their pumps to disperse less gasoline than it should have for the same price.

Yesterday they arrested another pair of men that stole 20,000 gallons of fuel and sold it to gas stations in Oakland County for personal profit. The FBI and numerous police agencies have been attacking this problem since Katrina hit. It has been nice to see gas prices come back down.

I live in a very rural area where it is a big weekend town. Here the gas prices seem to go up on Thurs/Fri and come back down on Monday which is B.S. Thankfully they are cracking down on this around the state and gas HERE is back down to $2.81 a gallon.

Just thought I would add my 2 cents about gas prices, even if it is off topic from the story

Someone mentioned an additive that is availible, that apparently is supposed to help you use less fuel. It works with gas or diesel, and you add an ounce to 20 gallons. Anyone here know anything about this?
I can't remember the name, it reminds me of FFT or TTF.

You guys are kidding right? Is that supposed to be a high price?

We pay up to 1.38 dollars a litre. Thats about 5.216 dollars a gallon. Taking the American dollar to be worth 0.75 Australian, we are paying US$3.912 a gallon.
