Does your station have one? Who has acess to it? What programs are being used for preplans? Streets and Maps? Haz Mat? Reports? What programs are free or cheap ? Anyone develop their own preplans from Microsoft office?

Yep we have one. Everyone has access to it with different accounts set up for security. Preplans are drawn in Visio then transfered to HTML. THNozzleman built a searchable HTML front end to browse them. The preplans are also kept in binders on all apparatus.
visio isn't cheap (around $150) but you can get addon fire service icons that really help with pre-plans.
The ultimate goal was to have a laptop on the 1st due engine that updates the preplans via Wi-Fi automagically. We haven't gotten there yet though. We struck down evil with the mighty sword of teamwork and the hammer of not bickering.

We have computers mostly for personal use, but there are a few computers whcih are dedicated only for fire use. On these we have FireTracker. FireTracker is a great program. Easist that I've used and has all the bells and whistles of any other program, plus the best part is that is there's anything that you don't like about it, or wish that it did, just ask and they can usually accomodate you. www.firetracker.netMFD Truck 2

We have a single computer and mostly it is used for NFIRS reporting. Some people use it to make new checklists and browse the web, but the majority is just reporting.EMT-B

We're all hooked up. We have two networks in our station, networked printers, wireless, file server, etc etc.
One is on a VPN with the town hall / fire marshalls office. Computers on this LAN are for NFIRS reporting, purchase orders, etc etc. Nothing on this network is for anything other than official use that needs connectivity with town hall.
The other network is for general use. There is a PC in the office that anyone can use for internet, MS Office programs, e-mail, AIM, etc etc. There are ethernet jacks throughout the building for people to plug their own laptops into. There is a wireless access point (with encryption) for the FD's laptop and anyone who has wireless on their personal laptop. There is a file server for storing stuff that way it can be accessed from anywhere later on.
My next project is to setup a VPN that members can use to connect to the file server and not have to save everything on their home PC.Even the burger-flippers at McDonald's probably have some McWackers.

There are two computers at the watchdesk (office? what's an office?). One is dedicated to iamresponding, the other is open to everyone (with restrictions for some) and is used mostly for Fire Programs, ie, NFIRS, inventory, etc. There is some preplanning on the general use computer, but not much at this point.
There is a also computer in the office at the banquet hall which is used for admin functions related to the hall. At present it doesn't have Internet access.Opinions my own. Standard disclaimers apply.
Everyone goes home. Safety begins with you.
