    Default Juniors/Explorers/Cadets

I'm looking for info on junior programs. Having them and how well they do and don't work. And also how much you allow them to do?

Sorry about the last post, a little confused about the title. Both of my companies that I run with have junior programs. From joining the fire service as a junior member, I feel that they play an essential part in learning about the fire service. The only things that I was not able to do was enter a structure, run hydraulic tools, and not allowed to get on the apparatus until I had completed my exterior training and was 17.

Also, they are only helpful if all the parties are interested in assisting and learning.

    Thumbs up

Contact your local Boy Scouts. The Boy Scouts of America have a wonderful program. It even provides insurance. They call it venturing. The Explorers don't have to be a member of the "regular" Boy Scouts to do it. They can also provide recruiting posters and such. I'm sure they could put you in touch with other departments for SOGs.

Yes the BSA is great. We have our explorer program thru them. Guys and gals both can take part under them. WE allow them to go to all the calls, but can not enter into a potentially dangarous (sp) situtaion. I.e. they can not fight the actual fire, nor can they go onto the scene of a possible violent medical, shootin/stabbing/etc... We do try to abide by osha regs for minors....

speaking of which, check them out too..osha that is

This is the Boy Scouts' exporing website. I'm looking into the same thing for my department and found a lot of good information here. I also went and talked with the Boy Scouts office in our area and found more good information talking with them.
