Mississippi Health Official Tries to Block M/A EMS

Here's a link to a story from Hattiesburg, MS. Apparently, a state health department official tried to block Cincinnati, Ohio FD medics from providing EMS as part of their deployment to Hattiesburg. (the deployment was officially requested and approved, I believe through EMAC). The local officials and the governor stepped in and got the problem corrected:

It appears that while some beaurocrat had the wrong priorites, better judgement prevailed.

This happened due to the greed of the private ambulance service in Hattiesburg! The FD here does not run medical calls, we assist the private Ambulance Service. They feared that even though the Cincinnati guys were here for firefighters only, and were not responding to Med Emergencies as a transport unit that they may transport and take money from the ambulance service.

This orginazation denies involvement, of course.

We have the same set up in Gulfport and this happened down here on the coast also. AMR ran off our 4 ALS medic units form Florida we were using as rescues. They were afraid of losing a little money also. We did let the Florida units TX PT’s after waiting 20 minutes for an AMR unit to arrive several times.

Why? Because they are a crappy company

Guess how long AMR lasted when they tried to invade the Chicago "market" ? They were gone in 2 years.
