    Default The Best Thermal Imager...

    For around $11,000.

I am looking for opinions from those who get to use/are exposed to many TICs out there.

What would be the best TIC you coudl by for about $11,000 or less?

How does the Fire Warrior compair to the many handheld units?

    Thanks!

We've got the highest line of Argus but I'm not sure if they are less than 11k. I'll look into it. They are an awesome product as far as I'm concerned. Anything that works when you need it is fine by me, and it does.

We have two of the MSA 5000 units and bought them for less than 10K. They have paid for themselves in less property damage alone.

we bought one... well the chief bought it for us and we hate it. Word of advice... stay away from bullard... especiially "the big brick". It heavy, big and bulky. A nice camera but you can get the same features in the MSA 5000 ... or atleast shall I say the useful features...

Yeah, we've got the Bullard "bricks" on all of our engines, they where great about five or six years ago when they first came out. But after using the Scott T.I. that you can crawl with (I forget the exact model) using the Bullard is a real hassel. But at $10,000 a piece we aren't getting new ones any time soon.

We had our original ARGUS replaced by our insurance company with an ARGUS 3. Shortly thereafter we were approved by our city council to buy another new imager. The guys who purchased it got an MSA 5000. After using both the MSA is nice and compact, but the ARGUS 3 shows a much larger spetrum of heat variation. Overall though Both work very well and have held up well.

Just remember... the camera doesn't work itself and is useless if you can't interpret the image.

The best camera is the one in the hands a well trained user.

What the heck.... you want everything!!

Its actually pretty sad how many people train on items they will never use and take the everyday stuff for granted!

Not everything! LOL! Just a new Pumper truck for now.

Whats happening is that its grant season here. We have recieved a FEMA AFG for SCBAs, a VFA/RFA for a TIC, and the Emergency Management office was approved for a Command vehicle (on a tight budget, but still great).

So all of a sudden I have to find the best stuff for the best deal!

Great fun but stressfull in that if I screw up I will never hear the end of it!

Yes, I fully agree that all of this new awsome gear is worth nothing if you dont know what the hell you are doing!

    Sorry for the delay Samson,
We got them from Midwest Fire and Safety here in Indiana. And most of the post after mine are right. The price has bottomed out on the TIC units in the last two years. One in 2004 and one in 2005.

MSA 5000. We spend a good 8 months researching and demoing every TIC we could, and were unanimous with the MSA.... It's a great piece.

why exactly do you need a tripod mount? Mayhaps I'm missing the point on this one.
