Default Brooksville Council Approves Raises, Quint, Personnel

To help deal with current growth as well as projected growth rates, the Brooksville City Council approved the 2005-06 budget without cuts, while still managing to roll back the milage rate, so taxpayers will see a slight reduction in taxes owed.

Actions that affected the fire department:

    >Approval to purchase a NEW Quint that will replace a 31 year old ladder, a 30 year old engine and another vehicle that is 19 yrs old.
(this will allow the movement of the current 2000 ALF to the 2nd station projected to open in late budget year)
    >approves the hiring of one additional person each quarter for the first 3 quarters to get staffing level to 6 per shift
    >2.5% raise in October for all city employees with another 2.5% projected in Jan or Mar of 2006 and this does not include projected salary adjustments after the completion of a salary study currently in progress.

The Brooksville Fire Departments is currently a one station department with 5 personnel on shift that serve an area of approximately 9 square miles and 7500 people with fire suppression and BLS (EMT) first response. Transoports are done by Hernando County Fire and Rescue. Annexations in progress that are projected for 2005-06 could add an additional 4 square miles.
