    Default Tornado strikes MSU

A tornado has struck in Starkville, Mississippi. First reports show that a trailer park has suffered damage as well as the Campus of Mississippi State University. First reports say only minor injuries thus far.

Alan, I don't know about you all, but we have been under a Warning since around 1100-1130. Skies are going that unmistakable "green" again.

I think ya'll have had more warnings than we have.....

Any damage so far in Lowndes county? I don't think I've ever seen a 48 period with this many tornado warnings! 8 to 10 at a time! For two days running!

Just had a report of a wall cloud in the south end of the county.

Just trees right now. Hunker down, boys, here she comes.

    Stay safe, Bro.........

We were just called out for a tree across the road, but I just found that my driveway has washed OUT at the ditch in front of my house! Guess I'll be on the tractor when it slacks up.....

On sunday afternoon, we set off the sirens for a tornado warning and then I took our 4x4 medical sprint to the big hill beside the infamous Lockheed Plant.
Two of our members, one my daughter, went with me.
We watched and gave updates as a wall cloud and then a funnel cloud passed over Meridian and Marion.
The funnel dissipated and then re-formed about 150 yards up and over us. It was a perfect textbook formation. I've never seen such a perfect "tube" like that. For lack of better words, it was a beautiful funnel.
I'm still kicking myself for leaving the digicam.

We foolowed the funnel cloud as it threatened to touch down. It was just north of town and east of hwy 45, and we had parked on the shoulder to observe whether it would touch down or not, when............
"EOC to all units, we have reports of trees down and debris ....."
We looked east toward the direction where the location given ........ and.......
just South West of our position..... THERE IT WAS... HEADED right for US.
A Tornado, on the ground, tossing treetops and debris like confetti.

I'm still not sure how I managed to let one slip up on us like that. I know better, and usually don't get tunnel vision (or funnel vision) in these situations.

Marion, Northeast, and Lauderdale got some damage. Thankfully no lives lost or injuries.
The National weather service says it was a F1.

    Now the obligatory warning.....

Don't make my mistake. Be careful and keep your eyes open in all directions.
